It's great to see when some good glass is complimented by some beautiful photography skills. Thanks for sharing.

#8 really stands out. really good. perhaps a tighter crop would work even better.

Most of your shots are too soft for portraits. Not a fan of the high contrast/crushed blacks/oversat as a lot of detail is lost. #8 is the best one of the set.

I liked it a lot too, the manual dodge & burn had the best effect on this photo out of all attempts lol.

Agree, I still haven't figured out how to make portrait's sharp..still looking for tutorials online for that. I find my PP-style just destroys the photos sharpness and I ended up crushing blacks :P

Sharpness happens before you press the shutter

Are you shooting wide open?

Lies!

Well for the darker ones (e.g. 3-5) I was trying to kill ambient so I would have been at f/10 and my poor 480EX II had to struggle to keep up...

At work these all look like they blend into the background very harshly in the blacks...could just be my screen.

I like the comp in 1 and 2. 2 looks a tiny bit tight on his hair. They both have a really nice happy feel to them though.

8 is nice but the collar is a bit distracting (can't be helped I suppose).

I really like the colours and poses in 9 and I think everything is well balanced - everything is pretty clear, easy to see and has it's own place in the comp.

Thanks! I was playing with off-camera flash, but the available side lighting at this place was pretty good in itself.

Agree on the blacks, I'm on my work laptop and no.8 is just a floating head, this screen just can't render the detail of the top which my laptop at home can.
