If it's faster then the 6970 and less then $100 more I will go green.
I don't want to go red as I then would have to sell my 3D monitor and glasses.
I want to go 6970 Xfire but they won't support 3D without a price.

But if the 6970 beats the 580 then red it is and I will just sell my 3D setup.

From the specification relating to the HD69xx series they will be interesting products, performance is something we will have to wait on. But needless to say AMD are opening up the taps with the these single GPU cards

As for price, at present it will be over $100USD difference in price.

I love the look of new hardware in the morning..

Yeah i'm in the same boat as you acid. Really want to 3d action it up still and although AMD state they can do 3d, they said the same thing for the 5xxx series too.

I've yet to see anyone using ATI/AMD cards rocking 3d games.

My setup would be a waste if i went to AMD's side, but they sure are doing a good job at tempting me back lol

Looks like the GTX580 will have trouble beating the GTX480 by even 15% once both are overclocked....
Stock levels show the real truth, Nvidia dont have anything, they are handpicking GF100s to try and take away from AMD's launch of actual new cards.

Bring on the 6970!

Yeah to me it comes down to the scaling in SLI, and we all know how good Nvidia scales in SLI.

AMD is has made improvements with CF though so it'll be interesting to see how those benchmarks go.

Nvidia isn't looking so hot atm though

Apparently it will have 128TMUs, which will be really good for SSAA performance (but probably much less noticable without the use of SSAA)

Man.... should I sell my 480 and upgrade to this baby?

Just wait around for a bit, see what both companies bring to the plate

We all saw this coming... so there's nothing to be excited about, the true 480 will be out, for 2 weeks it'll be "the fastest card available", then the 6970 hits.

The 6970 is virtually guaranteed to blow the 580 out of the water - these new 580's will be a better upgrade for NVIDIA fans (who own 8 series or 2xx series) than the 480 was, but if you're a 480 owner, I see no reason to upgrade to this... 15% is nothing, overclock your current card imo.

As for 3d - yes, it's definitely something that holds people back, but when you consider 3d vision surround goes from ~100 fps in non-3d to ~30fps in 3d, it's pretty useless.

Single screen 3d vision is pretty amazing - NVIDIA own that right now, if they can get 3dvs surround performance up, it's one thing that will keep people from upgrading.

But, the argument still stands, 3 x 120hz screens + 2 x 4xx or 5xx series cards are NOT CHEAP, you're talking $2000+ without anything else.

All the signs point to it being a fixed version of the 480, with more performance for less power usage.

I'd almost say yes, but the only things that I see against that is the cost & availablity of the 580 when it is released. you know its going to be bloody expensive & you will probably need to pre order it to ensure you get one anytime soon.

but if you sell it you could buy a 6970 instead

If it gave 30%+ performance, maybe.

But think of this:

second hand 480's are going to lose value like a brick made of shit now...

GTX580 will cost say $200 - $300 over what he'd sell it for, all of that for ~15% performance?

Grab another 480 second hand!! - they kick farken arse in SLI.
