Go to Officeworks (and maybye Harvey Norman etc) you can see what they (make sure you are looking at an e-ink reader) look like. The amazon is better than the ones they have on display most likely as has the new gen of e-ink screen with better contrast, but youll get the point.

Normal pdf's work but if they are a4 sized, impracticle to read on a book sized reader (though you can change the pdf with calibre)

Ebooks vary in price, theres a lot of free stuff out there

Re political/educational, most would be..

Not for the Kindle 3 - hence my question! and NVM I just realised the pic is an older Kindle.

Why does international shiping seem to take so long when they can deliver it inside the United States in two days? I figured that it wouldn't take longer than three weeks .

I really wanted one of these before Christmas, am I screwed? Do I have to order from the international link?

They are out of stock afaik (I just read review on either theage.com.au or heraldsun.com.au that alluded to that)

Yeah, I ordered 2. Estimated shipping time is about mid January or so. And yes to gurner, you do have to order the International one. Wouldn't let me order the US version.

I found it to be fast, from the time of ordering and it arriving was all under one week.

When I emailed Amazon and asked, the lady said:

Hello,

I'm sorry to inform you that kindle International delivery would take about 7- 9 weeks. This is due to limit of stock and it is being an International delivery it requires more time for you to be delivered.

But would like to tell that if you have a friend or relative in united states, they can order a kindle and they have an option of kindle delivery being sent to you.

I hope you understand our Limitations.

Again, I'm sorry I didn't have better news for you.
I'm going to shoot through an order. It'll be in the hands of Amazon if I'm a bad or good boyfriend

WTF I thought Internationally Shipping on the Kindle was free?

On the Order confirm page, it says $22 AUD Shipping. And secondly, how did they convert $139USD into 150AUD? AUD:USD isn't 92c.

I'm curious oh_noes, about this alternative shipping method. How does it exactly work?

Thats the official exchange rate; they may have other fees they may need to pay to exchange the currency.

Does it have to ship to the United States to do it this way or can I send it to Canada? Maybe I should just email and ask.

sorry if this has been asked, but if i buy a kindle can i get kindle books from amazon.com at USA prices? or will australians be limited and face higher prices and/or less content?

someone earlier posted about having to put in a fake US address in order to have access to the amazon USA's library at USA prices

eg http://www.amazon.com/Harry-Potter-S...1178111&sr=8-2

yes you can get that, the pricing is in USD though, so it's more like $1.63 AUD. The USA/AU libraries overlap substantially.
