Got hold of mum and placed my order

Intel 2600k
Asus P8P67 Pro
Corsair Vengeance 8gb

And decided last minute to chuck in a MSI twin frozR II radeon 6950, which I plan to unlock to 6970, and which will hopefully be quieter than my old behemoth 4870x2 !

MMMMM can't wait!! Was tempted to hit the button to order maximus and a second 6950 but resisted, since 95% of gaming only consists of WoW anyway

This is like the faulty DDC arguement. As I work for a disty I get an idea on what is good and whats crap. In my personal experience MSI is crap.

Folders need all the physical slots, but don't need the bandwidth, and gamers will only use a maximum of four slots, which will get eight lanes each. What's more, MSI's clever combination of the CeaseFire switch with eight PCI-E graphics slots means that you can choose the setup that best suits your PC's cooling or cabling needs.
PCIE x8 is plenty.

You get more lanes per card(x8) if you have only 4 cards. Not a board I would go for.

actually they have installed an additional nf200 chip so you can run full 16x16x16x triple SLI. Also every slot is 16x so you can choose where to put your cards instead of the manufacturers limiting you to 2 graphics card slots.

1155 socket continues from the 1156 socket that only had dual channel memory. Only the 1366 socket has triple channel. Triple channel memory not needed really

the Marshal uses a Lucid Hydra

the GD80 uses (rumoured) a NF200 chip for tril SLI at 16x/8x/8x

EDIT: possibly a 2nd on the GD80 for 16x/16x/16x

EDIT #2: some confusion in articles about the Marshal as lots of previews say 4x16x or 8x8x. It is thought there is a new Lucid hydralogix chip on the board providing more than 48 lanes (perhaps multiple Lucid chips or bridges).

Have there been investigations into comparing Lycid Hydra in CF and SLI configurations with X58 / NF200?
