What are your load temps?

If I throw FurMark on, 1280x1024 @ 32xAA = 94% load per GPU:

Jumps to 80C in 10 seconds (from 65C)...

3:37PM start.
I'll let it go for 5 minutes:
Results @ 3:38PM: 94C/87C
<fan kicks up to 85C @ 97C>
Brings it down to 93C (GPU1)
Results @ 3:39PM: back to 97... fan kicks in @ 85%... down to 93C

So... load temps (yes I'm using FurMark as it gives me hot temps RIGHT AWAY):

97C on both GPU's now... as soon as it hits 98C for even a second, fan goes nuts.

Oh I haven't tested that - it'd most likely just hit 98C and spin the fan up like crazy.

Anth, that's just crazy, even my GTX480's have never seen those temps or fan speeds.

I can see it now, Anth sells his 570's for a couple 6970's and once again enjoys quiet gaming

That is very hot GTX570. Glad my Zotac GTX580 never reaches those extreme temps. On air it has never reached past 72-85c with fan on auto stock cooling. But I have just 1 monitor at 60hz.

@DM - can't do 60hz, won't let me at this resolution, it's forced/stuck on 120hz.
You can't make a custom resolution using the customize button under the change resolution tab?

LuI3 was running multiple 480's at 120Hz and he never had these issues, the 570 runs cooler than the 480 so whatever the issue here it seems like a fairly isolated case.

Doesn't the card throttle using roastmark?

Anth must have a copy of furmark load at startup and sit in the background.

In all seriousness though if it isn't a driver issue I'd rma that card asap.

I have no idea.

I'm running 3 x Alienware AW2310's as you all know and they're now in portrait mode, 120hz.

I might try a format/re-install, but I don't see that fixing anything.

LOL

I thought about it... if AMD had no issues at 120hz I would consider it, but the 120hz on these things is just PERFECT.

Everything is really weird with those temps, it shouldnt reach that high. Regardless of the GPU not downclocking on idle, there is still no reason they should reach 95C especially if the case does have good cooling.

If getting a desk fan and blowing it into your case drops the temps 30C, its starting to point more and more at poor air flow through the case. But even then something is weird, 95C are temps you would see on a GPU under full load in a poorly ventilated case, not on a GPU on idle with 3D clocks enabled. Everyone here who owns 5xx series cards havent seen temps like that on idle regardless of using 120hz multi-screens or not.

My GTX460 HAWK was fine... never saw it hit 80C+

The 570's hit that without a problem. Right now, air con on, desk fan blowing in on full:

66/55C idle. But clocks are at full speeds.

I'm guessing it could be a bug with portrait mode...

Wouldn't call 95c at idle perfect.

I know what you mean

You gotta try something to fix the issue though, coz that's just not normal and I'm pretty sure it's not how nvidia designed it to work.
Worst case they should idle at 405Mhz, but most definitely not at full 3D clocks.

Yeah it's definitely flat-knackers all the time.

766/1955/1532.

Re-installing sucks massive amounts of sack - which is why I wanted to not do it at all, but now I'm thinking I may have to. But, if I do and it doesn't fix it, I'm going to rage so hard.

Do you have another PC you can chuck it/them in? Saves pissfarting around.

So just to get this straight.

Single or SLI GTX570's running single or dual monitors = OK temps/clock speeds at idle/2D

SLI GTX570's running surround (3 monitors) = Hot temps/full speed clocks at idle/2D

Is that correct?
