Looks like it was a good decision to wait for the 560s! 560 SOC when they arrive for me

Your first sentence doesn't answer any part of my question

So you want the Phantoms because they offer 3GB of memory? Not for anything else?

For those interested - http://www.auspcmarket.com.au/products/1922/

In stock and pricing is reasonable (least for the Galaxy, Gigabyte and MSI).

EDIT: Pricing includes delivery.

I'm a bit pissed off, I normally buy all my stuff from Computeralliance, but I sent them an email asking when they would have the 560's, saying I was happy to wait a couple of days to buy local.

I get this back

We don’t have any of the GTX560 cards listed at this stage, only the 570’s and 580’s.

Good way to lose sales.

Based on someones earlier comment on Asus' pricing "anomalies" one would expect the Gigabyte SOC to come in lower than $400?

Lose*

But they were only released a couple of days ago. Would you have preferred if he had given you an ETA?

Good salesman: "We dont have them in right now but we are expecting a shipment in Monday or Tuesday next week. Would you like me to put one aside for you?"

Bad salesman: "We don’t have any of the GTX560 cards listed at this stage, only the 570’s and 580’s.

Judging by the language used, I reckon Craig looked at their site, saw none listed and replied as such

I'm sure you figured out by the fact that they weren't on the website that they didn't currently list them, hence the email :P lol

I'm surprised with the OC potential of these cards. I mean SOC released with 1Ghz stocked. I was thinking maybe 950Mhz as that was the ballpark for the GTX460. If only the GTX470 could reach such clocks. It's still a bit faster than the GTX560 I reckon.

I'm feeling a little sad. Missing the Overdrive section from Ati's/AMD's CCC.

Being able to see and adjust fan speed and card clocks in the drivers without installing a 3rd party app is just so civilised.

What do people use to view/adjust fan speed or clocks with Nvidia? MSI Afterburner?

I remember there used to be a little reg tweak you could do to enable some shit like that in Nvidia. My last gaming Nvidia card was an 8800GTS 640MB and I never overclocked with that...or if I did I can't remember.

EDIT: Nevermind. MSI Afterburner FTW.

Anyway...moving on.

What's an overclock on the GTX570 that's OK for 24/7 without having to up voltage?

I've just done a bit of a google search and saw 800Mhz for the Core Clock mentioned.

I've just upped the Core Clock to 800mhz and Shader Clock to 1600mhz (linked) - didn't touch fan speed or Memory clock or Core Voltage.

3DMark 11 ran fine - 200 points higher than previous score at default settings.

How much higher can I go?

What's a reasonable OC without having to up voltages?

Well, yeah. VRAM becomes limited at really high resolutions, and the phantom is the only card to offer more than 1.5gb (from nvidia anyway...)

There's also a chance it'd overclock better, as they probably redid the PCB as a part of adding the extra memory.

I'll wait and see anyways... maybe with 4 x 480 I won't be VRAM limited cause they'll be quick enough to make up for it

Plus after my recent bout of buying and finishing off this system I doubt I could afford the Phantoms anyway I'm not expecting them to be cheap.

Edit: And if I go to all the expense of swapping to phantoms, may as well swap to 6950/70s instead and go quad fire I keep hearing of mixed experiences with eyefinity quad fire however.

You'll easily get higher than that. Crank up the voltages (AfterBurner only allows safe voltages anyway) and you should be seeing 900 easy. I'm not sure what the highest is, but going from 772 to 800..... that's what companies to charge you more. That's not a real OC. As for being resonable. It really depends on the temps. Put it on furmark for an hour, and see if you can stand the fan noise (and the temps are under 100 degs). If it meets those requirements then your safe. If not, consider water.
