Woops - so there it is :P

SO I wonder if it will actually be two 580's or whether they will be restricted like AMD have been and it will be two 570's.

I'm currently a happy owner of a 5970, and prior to that I was running two 5850's in Crossfire. A lot of the reviews of the 6990 say that it's not worth it when you could get two 6950's instead.

Basically, I want to upgrade again before BF3 comes out (unless the 5970 will run it) and I'm hoping that the 590 will really smash everything else out of the water and give me a reason to say "hellz yeah I'll take that".

Well two 6950's are very very good value considering you can unlock them to 6970's spec's. Considering you already have a 5970, the only games that would see massive benefits of an upgrade would be ones that feature tessellation. At present i don't see why a 5970 couldn't take on BF3, but it's best to see how it goes first before spending the extra cash for a new card.

Found this recently as well Looks like it will be two 512's, i don't think it would be worth using anything less. The next problem is the clock speeds shipping on the GTX 590 :S

Wow, nice pic Looks like one from an nvidia marketing presentation.

Interesting to see it's basically the same cooler idea as the 6990 However, look at how the fan is in the middle - looks much more suited than ATI's solution to quad sli setups as there would be a gap for air to flow in. Good to see they considered that in the design.

Another interesting point is the custom bridge chip... NF200 v2? PLX? Hydra (Unlikely)?

Cool stuff

While it's good to see NV back on track with a dual GPU card, I still can't see the point of such a product unless you lacked the foresight to get a mobo equipped with, at minimum, two 8x pci-e slots.

If you have the capability for two individual but identical cards in SLI/CF/NVS or Eyefinity than get two individual cards - As it usually means you get not only a cooling system that is basically twice as good as the dual GPU/single card solution , but you also don't share circuitry between individual components - ironically, in some cases, two cards also actually cost less than one dual GPU card, ie: 6990.

Well NVIDIA was first with a middle fan design if i'm not mistaken when they released the second version of the GTX 295. I'm surprised ATI took so long to utilize it.

I like that they have made the cover easy to remove (based on the slide) for cleaning, i always hate to void my warranty.

Pending what it really becomes, it might be a less power hungry version of the NF200, or a reworked version of that chip optimized for a dual GPU card, rather than just a patch job. I doubt they'd call it custom if it was a PLX chip.

no, still using an old screen. Was thinking that i should upgrade the monitor too, but that would blow the budget, or only leave enough money to get a single 560 card, which means i'd probably be back to where i am now in terms of FPS and eye candy options?

If i include a screen upgrade, is 120Hz TN better for gaming than going for IPS panels? And would a single 560 be able to achieve 120Hz at the typical 1920x1080 res?

I think i'm going to blow the budget

I don't see a 560 hitting 120fps at 1080p in modern games. Your best bet would be a 60Hz 1080p TN like this and a pair of 6850s ($200 each) which would be about the perfect amount of power. If you have to go Nvidia for whatever reason, a couple of 1GB GTX 460s ($210 each) are only a little less powerful, but still enough. It's not an ideal solution (everyone wants a 30" IPS ) but it'll let you play the games you want at a decent res and frame rate. No point having them look beautiful if they chug along.

Thanks for the input mate.
I'm thinking that i'll stick with my original plan of getting 2 x 560's in SLI for now for crazy frames on my little screen and leave the screen for a future upgrade path.
Your suggestions above are sound, but leave me buying a new screen and past gen GPU's which limits my upgrade path options.

Soo... anyone got a link to a review of the GTX580 that also has 560 SLI results in the graphs?

No worries, your idea is better if you're willing to wait. Here's a 560 SLI review (you won't find 560 results in a 580 review as the 580 came out first).

The drip feed of info is painful.

Tell us the price son, i mean the clock/shader speed

I think I would go for the 2 x Phantom version. GTX 590 should have 6GB in total.
