What router are you using? Regardless, reboot it.

D-Link wireless router & D-Link ADSL Modem. I have rebooted both. The second computer that is working is connected through the same pair with no problems. I have used: CC Cleaner AFT Cleaner Malwarebytes Anti-Malware SUPERAntiSpyware These found a few nasties which they removed, but I'm still not browsing. Thank you once again everyone for your suggestions. I appreciate your input. |

Hmm, try this:
1. Right click on the internet connection icon 2. Troubleshoot. If that doesn't work, 1. Clear your hosts file 2. Get SpyBot Search and Destroy, scan, immunise your hosts file, then make it read only. 3. Try again If that doesn't work, 1. Win+R 2. Type in "msconfig" without quotes 3. Enter 4. When the window comes up, hit "Diagnostic Startup" 5. Apply and Okay 6. Try again If this fixes it, it's something in your startup that's causing the problem. Go through and check them one by one until you identify your problem

I'll check the nect time I'm home. There was no HOSTS file? There was a HOSTS.BAK so I removed the .BAK and tried with this, but still no good. Quote:

Once again I appreciate your suggestions. Keep them coming. Even though I'm not fixing the computer, I'm learning a little as I go. |

Quote:I'm still screwed. Spybot won't run 'cause it needs an internet connection and can't "see" the internet?? TO SUMMARISE AGAIN I have an internet connection. I am able to ping web sites and get a positive reply. However IE, firefox, chrome and safari "cannot display the webpage". I have compared the connection properties in IE/tools with another computer and can't see any differences. No “hosts” file. I’m close to doing a full rebuild. Any last minute suggestions??? |
