Indeed and that was in relation to the question asked about installing with steam by copying full install files from somebody elses steam installation. Having recently done this no the steam backups won't give you a full cache after the initial steam install if you have fully updated by running the soe launcher. As steams file list is outdated and will only give you 63%, if someone hasnt run launcher after getting steam files then a backup from that would probably work but you still have a few gig to download via the soe launcher. Also don't validate it through steam as this will say you are missing files even though they may be perfectly valid instead yes use the soe launcher's validation.

From reading through others posts theres a few things that have been said which havent held true so just clarifying a few points. If you purchase and install the game via steam it will goto the steamapps dir like every other game and it installs the launcher / unreal engine via steam, perhaps for those in the beta when they got the full version it maintained the install in the programdata dir but i deleted my beta install before it finished and my new install was in the steamapps dir.

TL: DR Steam backups are fail, the best advice get the key from steam and use the soe launcher from the website to do a clean install, and if you do copy-paste files use the soe launcher validation

So is it worth getting ripped off by SOE to you?

It's fun, but meh, it's more of the same stuff. If you've played City of Heroes / Champ Online / other western superhero MMOGs it's just having the lore of DC Universe fighting alongside. You get a mission, go beat up X number of baddies. Get reward. Then when you are level 30, go fight arena / PVP.

The mentor thing is pretty cool. I hear good things about having The Joker or Superman as your mentor.

I encountered a bug that wouldnt let me off the tutorial missions in the first 30 minutes.

Whilst i would have been happy to pay for 3 months, i'm not particularly thrilled about SOE's dodgy practice of charging us extra for no fucking reason. So i'm gonna go with cancelling my sub till the free period runs out / or SOE gets their shit in order.

$5/month is not a lot of money, but the business of misleading customers should not be endorsed by any consumer.
Appreciate the post.

Honestly, I don't care about the $5 so long as it's a good game. I agree there is something fishy going on here, but if the game is good, people will pay.

I just registered saying I lived in the USA when I set my account up.Pay only $15US.
Still not sure if it's worth it. Maybe we should get a list of everyones usernames so we can add some friends. It is hard to team up.

My character name is "Seizure" on Zero Hour. I am Villian.

i seriously can't see a friends list in this game... which for an MMO... seems odd

also tried this with a 360 controller and while it felt a little more natural i def have more control when flying with the mouse lol... its good to see they patched the controller system so it doesn't show the PS3 buttons like it did in the beta

Press the letter 'O' for the social page. It has friends etc.

level 26 last night.

guess its time to do pvp since the pve content is drying up (unless i make a villian)

at this stage i'm happy with the game but still not worth USD$15/AUD$20 a month if the pve content dries up after 4 days O_O.

The profanity filter is annoying. I want to see how ####ing annoyed my friends and enemies are after i beat the ####ing #### out of them.

The chat system is horrible.

The social / friends system is horrible.

It's difficult to organise groups / PUGs.

Instances are fairly easy. Just make sure you can tank/heal, and have Crowd Control abilities i.e. Whirlwind as Speedster + Circle of Protection (Sorcery)

Can the OP please update 1st post to include a list of all players, their names and what servers they are on?

I'm going to get this game tonight, would be good to know what server to jump on

hey man just picked this up, currently servers are down but when I get a chance i'll likely roll on death & glory, and probably hero side because everyone seems to go villains.

Yeah Im not sure if I will hero or villain yet, but leaning to villain because I've been alliance in WoW for the last 5 years (lol!).

Question - did anyone get "Buddy Codes" when they bought DCUO? I want to give some trials out to my mates, but I didn't get any.

SOE support are giving me the runaround, so I give up there.

Yeah i'm choosing hero because I like being the underdog, and don't want to wait for pvp queues and will always have somebody to fight! Also I think heroes may have a few more mature players as being a villain is more appealing

you can reset powers and skill points, so dont be afraid to try different traits and see how they work.

You cant go from a fire to ice power ingame though.

The general consensus I got from the forums was villains outnumber heroes, a few random posts telling heroes to queue for pvp as the villains were in waiting queues. I think I read someone estimating a 4-1 ratio of villains to heroes. Each server would be different, but it wouldn't suprise me if there was a 2-1 ratio.
