Can anyone tell me why my multiplier keeps changing itself? Ive turned off speedstep and any other -auto- functions that I can to find out why. Its not a huge issue, as things are running cooler with it turned on obviously.

Also, holy flying unicorns Batman - I can overclock to 4.4GHz on the stock Intel cooler, let alone a chunky heatsink!! I just have to say, that is amazing and its awesome to be able to run that at 35 idle and not cap 80 under load.

Raise all the power limits in BIOS.

Got new CPU, MOBO, RAM today. Does 4.44ghz at 1.26v, 78 load in prime blend. I haven't found the minimum voltage yet and I don't know if it's stable... I think I'll go back to 3.8ghz for now cause I'm certain that's stable.

So starting to think about upgrading my i7 920... Mainly use my system for gaming, just ordered 2 gtx670's... Anyway question is... I5 3570k or i7 3770k? Not sure if it's worth the extra $100-150 for gaming... Thoughts?

I was gonna go i7 but starting to think I could save some coin with i5...

so, back on that TIM business, anyone super keen to try this? http://www.xtremesystems.org/forums/...rom-79C-to-71C

the guys at XS seem to be getting good results replacing the TIM with something decent

Geezus.........What surprised me is how Intel had gone all dodgey with it's IHS contact with it's own hardware. Using horrible cheap plastic thermal pad on the contact point. No wonder everyone was getting way above temps from overclocking.

I didn't expect Intel to ever do this, a multi-billion dollar company resorting to doing this on their own Brand-new Ivy's......Imagine forking out over $350 for a 3770K and it has that awful cheap-ass TIM attached..........Shame on you Intel.

I sure hope they will change their tight-arse ways and start doing something like they did on the 1366 cpus.......Solder the sucker on.

it's not a thermal pad, it's paste, and they've used it on many a CPU before this.. high and low end.

It's a 77W TDP part, so it really doesn't need to be soldered for the 95% of owners that won't overclock the bejesus out of it

Except here on OCAU we represent the OTHER so-called 5%. The ones that wanna go 5GHz PLUS.

And that's what matters here.

I picked up a 3570K for Umart on Friday.
Batch#: L204B161
I'm yet to fire it up but my research show that this batch are good for 5Ghz if you have one of the center chips and 4.8 - 4.6 on the middle and outer ring of the silicone wafer. So i should be able to manage at least a 4.6Ghz with a bit of luck.

It will be on an ASUS Z77 Sabertooth board with 8GB Trident 2400mhz ram and a custom water loop on a Lian Li T60 test bench with an ASUS 6950 2gb DCII top. Also using a 128gb SSD for the OS.
Before i bloat it with programs i will probably do some benching for the HWBOT competition. See how i go

Good news, does anyone here have a batch in the L***C*** range yet?

Just interested in knowing if they are floating around here in Australia.
