Bummer T8Y, I'd be pretty pissed.

Just went to netplus in Osborne park and they're selling ivy over the counter. No 3770k, they expect them early to mid next week. Got some stock reserved. Also picked up a 3570k because I couldn't help myself.

This explains a lot

So why is Ivy Bridge hot?

Intel is using TIM paste between the Integrated Heat Spreader (IHS) and the CPU die on Ivy Bridge chips, instead of fluxless solder.

Why would they do such a thing

I assume the extreme guys are getting great results because it doesnt really matter when you're splashing LN2 over the whole lot?

Bit disappointing on the performance figures. Was expecting more from their new model. Kinda glad I upgraded when I did now.

Although it still doesn't clearly explain the massive temp difference between the 3570//3770, hard to just blame hyperthreading imo. It'd be awesome to find out they switched to solder for retail or certain models so we know what to go for & all those early reviews temperature results would go out the window..

One can dream?

There should be results out soon enough with popped lids, I can't wait to see if it helps but it has to, the question is how much .... I will pop one if it helps. Would it be worth popping one and changing the TIM? Stuff it, shim time!!!

I would have my doubts the Athlon XP shim would work.
I know I have one at home somewhere.
Who is going to be the first guinea pig to try it?
