So I got the opportunity to go to Brickvention this year as an attendee rather than a spectator - very very worthwhile!
Events kicked off on Saturday with Build-in-a-bag, the competition to build a model in a single bag without opening it: ![]() DSC_0073 by Raytracer Photography, on Flickr This was serious business: ![]() DSC_0076 by Raytracer Photography, on Flickr Next up was the Timed Sort contest, sorting 1x1 Slopes in various colours against the clock - The best time was 2:58 for this, and in the lighting separating dark blue, dark green and black was extremely difficult! ![]() DSC_0092 by Raytracer Photography, on Flickr Of course, a LEGO convention wouldn't exist without the models to show off, and there were plenty on display: ![]() DSC_0095 by Raytracer Photography, on Flickr The classic-spacetroopers came out in force: ![]() DSC_0122 by Raytracer Photography, on Flickr Creations of all sizes were on display: ![]() DSC_0147 by Raytracer Photography, on Flickr And many attendees used the day to make last minute changes to their displays before Sunday: ![]() DSC_0163 by Raytracer Photography, on Flickr Full Day 1 Gallery here: Brickvention 2011 Day 1 On Sunday, the gallery was thrown open to the public: ![]() DSC_0219 by Raytracer Photography, on Flickr ![]() DSC_0216 by Raytracer Photography, on Flickr It was INSANELY busy! ![]() DSC_0226 by Raytracer Photography, on Flickr My personal favourite of the show: ![]() DSC_0238 by Raytracer Photography, on Flickr ![]() DSC_0242 by Raytracer Photography, on Flickr Brickvention Day 2 Gallery here: Brickvention 2011 Day 2 Hopefully you can get a feel for how big this event was from this, it was massive - last year there were about 2,500 public viewers and 60-ish attendees, this year initial estimates put the public views at over 10,000! |

That's awesome. Love how all the participants in number one aren’t what you’d call kids! Must get my Lego out again one of these days…

I'm ashamed to say, I didn't take a MOC this time, though next year I will!
I took the 8448 Supercar, and the 8880 Supercar. Hannah displayed the castle seen in the last photo, it was a big hit with the kids

That. Is. Awesome.
The Lego stores in Germany, especially Wiesbaden and Cologne, are mad. |

Came into Melbourne to check it out on Sunday, but by 10:20am (10am start) the line wrapped half way around the Town Halls city block!

Reminded me of ye olde days working at Grace Bros where they had the Lego exhibition on the top floor of the city store back in the early 80's... Used to be a high-demand place for the cash register staff to work in...

hmmm, seems we should have made our big wheel out of lego instead of steel..... I wonder if the Lego one will bend and crack too? cool photos, wish I had attended, but by the sound of the queue size, glad I didn't.
Everyone know about the cool Lego store in Moonee Ponds? They do functions (for children) and have a wierd assortment of kits for sale. |

Lego is just so timeless although I'm not a huge fan of the new kits that are just specific items. Back in my days you had to just use the blocks to make something creative. Some of that has been lost with the specialised kits. My Kids now play regularly with my 30+ year old Lego.
Thanks for sharing the photos. Was this in ADL or MEL
