Default Super wierd Windows 7/XP networking issue

Hi,

hope someone can help with my problem, I give up!

At home I have 2 PC's running Windows XP and QNap NAS box. Never had a single issue browsing files on NAS box from XP PC's.

Recently built new HTPC and installed Windows 7 Home Premium. Whenever I browse files on NAS box when one of my XP machines is down, browsing speed from HTPC is extremely slow or simply put unusable. Another XP PC has no problems whatsoever.

Once I turn particular XP PC back on, browsing is back to normal on HTPC.
Every PC (including NAX box) has 'Master Browser' turned on and all are in the same workgroup.

I use UNC path when accessing NAS from HTPC.

Any idea why I have this strange problem and how can I solve it? It's driving me nuts.

Thanks in advance!

give this a whirl

first under network and sharing advanced settings, be sure 128bit encryption for windows sharing (samba) is off, have it on the lower one if not already.

then turn off large task offload on your Ethernet stack:

Quote:
Disable "Large task Offload" for the NIC:
1. Open an elevated command prompt and press Enter: netsh int ip set global taskoffload=disabled
2. Disable and re-enable the network interface.

Thanks for a super quick reply mate!

Up till now I didn't even knew these options existed.

I'll try tonight, fingers crossed!

i also had some cheap nas i had to firmware update, oddly on the stock firmware it would cause my (few years back now) vista explorer window to crash when trying to browse it. weird that i had to update the nas firmware to fix a crash in vista but you never know.

so if you still dont have any luck, it may be worth checking into if theres newer firmware offered for the nas

You never know of course, but I more suspect something to do with browser master or something similar. My QNAP box is running latest firmware and I never had single issue from XP PC's.
