Collaboration project 1 - IsoCity OCAU style!
This is a collaborative project being done just for fun. The aim is to draw, tile by tile, an isometric city. It's a collaboration of people's imagination, creativity and skill. These projects only work when people follow the rules. The aim is for us to have a bit of fun, and have something to show for it at the end. I'd like to do more projects after this one so really hoping it catches on! Rules 1. Everyone can make as many tiles as they want, but you can't make a tile that is adjacent to another tile you have made. 2. To claim a tile, please post the grid reference and I'll update the first post with a list of who's doing what. I'm not on every second of the day so please be sure to look through the thread for recent claims. Also, make sure you claim one that's adjacent to a tile already completed. 3. No animations. 4. Tiles need to join the tiles adjacent to it. You don't need to continue the neighbouring tile's idea, but you need to make sure it blends seamlessly. 5. Keep scale and light source consistent. 6. When you've completed a tile, post it by itself and I'll update the main pic. 7. Try to complete a claimed tile as fast as possible. On some of the more complex projects i've seen, reservations are 30 days however i'd love to keep the project going a little faster than that. Maybe 24-48hrs per tile? 8. Don't edit other people's tiles Notes 1. Everyone is encouraged to participate, regardless of skill. This is primarily for fun. That said, don't claim a tile and then not complete it, or give it a half arsed effort. 2. Tiles will be rejected if they don't match scale and lighting or if they do not blend to adjacent tiles. Also, if they're offensive in any way, rude etc. 3. Things are likely to change, this is us giving it a go, so suggestions and comments are welcome. 4. Save in a format such as .png or .bmp. Send me the original file (link or i'll give out email addy) so I can add it to the original pic. 5. Good tutorial here. 6. The board will be expanded as time goes on, as it's relatively small at 7x7 at the moment. Light source is top left. Tiles are 50x50 squares (I think :\) Give it a go ![]() This is the updated pic: ![]() Previous updates: Tile 6 corrected Tiles 4-6 Tile 3 Tile 2 updated Tile 2 Tile 1 Tile author list: D4 Narcoticx2 D5 oli C5 Narcoticx2 D3 sheezymaneezy D2 Grant F3, F4 Spondy (WIP) RESERVED: ---Original Post--- Wondering if there'd be enough interest here to collaborate on a pixel art project? There are many examples around if you don't know what i'm talking about, just do a google for pixel art collaboration The general idea is each person does a set peice of the tile which must connect to the neighbouring tiles. The scene is given a theme and a selected palette of 16 or so colours. The scene can dramatically change given everyone's different ideas and skills. I'd imagine beginners and advanced artists alike can partake, i've only just started getting in to PA myself...

Yeh what the hell. Are you considering a top view or isometric image?

Well, i'm not sure. I personally think Isometric would be easier to get going and for someone with no experience to have a go at.

I'm keen, but I have no idea what to do (in regards to pixel art).
I'm a graphic designer by trade, but would love to experiment with you guys. Lee |

Okay well i'm just learning too so no need to be pro!
Now we have a bit more interest i'll have a look around and see what sort of thing we should kick off with. Write up some instructions and a palette based of what seems to work on other sites/collabs.

Updated first post with info, rules and first tile. Comments and suggestions welcome, otherwise jump in and have a go, and we'll see how it goes!
Tried to go with the all-glass-building look you see in cities, just in case it isn't clear :P edit: i've decided i'm going to re-do my shiny effect, it looks crap :P

Also for the first couple of contributions you can choose any square, doesnt have to be adjacent to a completed one This helps kicks things along and doesn't stifle creativity
