Great stuff, drop them to 1100Mhz at cas4, you'll be surprised.

What exactly are they? rating?

having read the entire page now i'm still a little perplexed as to what instigated the meloncoly? it sounds to me that most people have a pretty accurate picture as to where they want to be - no? there are a few points that look screamingly obvious that seem to have a a glass half full perspective but i see todays playingfield as one of the mosting exciting times for overclockers...

muz if you don't like sb i don't blame you. using mine feels cheap. points are easy, there is no skill to bench the platform and hurting scores built by folks over time feels almost disrespectful. although i can see a collary between film and digital photography, paint and photoshop, analogue and mp3... the list goes on.

775 gear can be had for peanuts atm. alot of gear is coming up in the fs section where origional owners, (more often than not noob gamers who have never exercised their gear), are upgrading and are just dumping primo kit for sweet FA. (note the 4x1gb of micron d9 flex snap bought for $30 which retailed at $700+ per 2x1gb set 3 years ago). however much a backwards step it can seem for some - 775 is still the most fun platform i have ever had the pleasure of benching and there are still excellent bot points to be had with it.

1156 & 1366 can already be picked up pretty cheaply but come christmas when all the kiddies look at sb-e and skt 2011 there is going to be a huge crash in pricing. we all know it, we've all seen it before, it is going to be a festival on the forums and as i said before - it'll be cheap as to pick up really good gear. (i've already been looking at some nice i5 gear to have a play with the last of the duo's).

love it or hate it, (i personally hate it even though i own it), sandy has changed the face of benching. any 12 yr old wanker with no clue can pick up a 26k and a $100 mb and start smashing scores that pros spent years accruing. it has caused a fair few of the old guard to pack in the benching scene and it'll likely cause more damage as time goes by imo...

where we used to have to get in all the best kit, and usually the most expencive, folks can dedicate the same budget to binning. 100% gone are the days when a pot is mandatory for big scores. searching for that elucive multi has become the only way to go for getting the high clocks on current gear.

is it the death of overclocking? thing is, the same bs happened to F1 when they added in all the engine regs. piss-ant departments like aerodynamics suddenly got a massive boost in interest when the motor boys had to stop improvments for 3 years. the same is happening here... os and reg tweeking has become a must. no need for ln2 when a vapochill is likely more than sufficient to do the job.. hell $50 in bunnings gave me my slush bucket and i've not needed to void a warranty using it. before a splash of ln2 could send scores northwards, and give the owners of such gear a nice penis extension on the internet, now anyone with a monkey in their pocket can make a seasoned pro look ordinary. enthusiast benchers are having to start thinking outside the lazy box which is no bad thing.

my perspective is easy - go buy a 1155 setup if your in to boint building or go get a solid 775 setup if you want to have some fun. both will cost between $400 and $500 when you add in some of the gear we all have cluttering the man cave. otherwise, if it's not fun anymore then the hobby needs to be put down. (no new news here lol lets move along).

seems i keep getting told to bench 775 gear, but have already done it while it was current. went 650i, 680i, 750i, 780i and P45. thats enough for me, i have no reason to go back to gear i was benching years ago.
s1156 and P55 is more fun, better cpus, better motherboards, better ram, better all round imo. and in 4 years im not going to go back to s1156 again

They are way overpriced for what they are imo and they are poor hypers... cas9 .

Look for some original cas 7 Dominators 1866 7-8-7-20 and they will do 2100 Mhz 7-8-7 in triple channel and you'll pay $100

Dam I wish I had time to overclock now, a few weeks back thought I would have time. Between travelling, tafe, training and work takes up no less then 50hours a week, then I still have a secondary tafe course I have to do in what spare I have.

well.. wait and see how bulldozer shapes up, then maybe try out am3+ like i am?

i dont expect it to bring in hundreds of dirty points like SB did, or break WRs or anything. infact i doubt it will (going by leaked benches - pure speculation til NDA lifts later this week, of course).

but its certainly going to be some fun, and thats all im after atm.
kinda a throwback to earlier OC days but on "more modern" gear, i guess, with a new learning curve as well.

was more the mem chips "potential" i was after, rather than the "rated speeds"..
stuffs hard to find these days. and nothing new really clocks/runs LL like they did

edit: fair enough on price though. might give them a miss anyway, keep eyes open. in no hurry for new ram anyway

I have learnt more playing with 775 in the last 6 months than I did for 2.5 years when it was current, I had 2 QX 9650's and a X48 REX, I certainly didn't hit 6Ghz when it was current

are you and ando going to put his 655k under ln2? looks like a great sample from what i have seen. i think you will be pleasantly surprised with the platform. with the choice of unlocked multis for a dual core is nice. the quads i wouldnt bother with, as they dont clock real high. definitely the best dual core systems available. if you like p45 you will like p55

Can't wait to bench the 655 under ln2!! I actually have 2x chips from the exact same batch plus a 530 I'm getting that we can bench also

I still think the highlight is going to be E8600 @ 6ghz+
with black ops Northbridge on Ln2 cant wait to see whAt FSB we can hit

cool, am keen to see how the 655 and 530 go.
we've had no luck with subzero 1156 sofar though dingos mobo was dodgy, and we had some bad performing chips.
his mobo has since been replaced (RMA) though.

my 530 has nearly hit 5ghz (validate stable.. 4.7 benchable) on the h50 here though, on a mitx mobo no less, so id be keen to see how that goes with more cold..
have been considering getting some more i3 530/540 cpus.

on the rams earlier, found some dominators that might suit instead so will look into that..

happy to cap the cards again but i'd be careful going to far back as i'm not sure how many members have 7*** series in the draw. saying that it'd be nice to play with my new 580 and to see t8y's on show.

edit: hey paq'd, this months hwbot comp is with ram oc. 5 stages with cas2,4,6,8 & 10 limitations. your cas5 @1300 would put you in a nice position
