Default Headphone falling apart

I bought a pair of Beyerdynamic DTX800's in about 2008 or so. Since then they've been quite good for the money and I didn't regret purchasing them... Until now...

Just recently the vinyl/fake leather that holds the earmuff thing on basically disintegrated over the course of a week. Okay, fair enough maybe it was due to fail eventually. Then the entire inside of the earphone foam disintegrated too within a day of each other...

Am I expecting too much to have the earphones not fall apart after a few year's simple use? It was almost like it was 'time-bombed' given how quickly it fell apart with seemingly no change in usage..

Earpads and foam parts wear out, it's perfectly normal for any model from $10 to $1000 and beyond.
I can't remember if we can get spares for the DTX, but we may be able to - best to email us for confirmation

really? i got my HD555 back in 2005/6 and there is no wear and tear yet. i have not been treating them very well either, they keep on falling off the desk, cable gets caught etc and they receive heavy use

Rough treatment doesn't equal heavy use, especially where the earpads/foam plugs are concerned.

I've had a pair of DT531 for nearly 10 years and they're still going strong, my pads are fine but some of the pairs I've seen haven't been looked after nearly as well.
Some of the HD555s that I've seen look like they've been dug up.

News flash : stuff wears out!
