of the hundreds of gadgets i've bought (including dodgy no-name ones from HK) i've only ever had a few suffer significant failure. so to me the risk of failure is 1-2%.

would i pay a 25% premium to cover the 1-2% likelihood of my new sgs2 failing? hell no.

I believe the warranty is with MobileCity, not Samsnug AU. They are import phones, same as handtec are selling.

Mobicity FAQ

Q: What is the warranty on the phone?
A: Our phones are mainly sourced from overseas markets. They are top quality but cheaper or more available than local stock. MobiCity provide a 12 month warranty on phone faults with service centres located across the country.

Is that meant to contradict Danthemanz?

I am led to believe that 'Service Centres' represents 3rd party mobile phone repair businesses with whom Mobicity may have affiliation with or have a referral system in place.

It does not seem to say in the FAQ that the manufacturer will necessarily process and accept warranty claims for Mobicity stock.

To me it sounds like you just contradicted yourself

You're all saying essentially the same thing which is what I believe too - mobicity's "warranty" is just an agreement to repair your phone locally at their cost. which after all is what a warranty is (although it may not be complete and full like a proper samsung warranty)

Interactive Mobiles my SGS is being repaired at, well they said in the Email anyway.

Interactive Mobiles is a registered Samsung repairer apparently.

I don't care, it's being fixed under warranty so I'm happy.

EDIT: Yep, Aussie Warranty is where my SGS went, who then said that there repair partner Interactive Mobiles has recieved it and is being replaced.

I was looking at that as an option for an imported handset, then I read the T&C:

Quote:
FAQ – Anytime Warranty
• Am I eligible to purchase Mobile Phone MBI?
Eligibility for this insurance is subject to the following conditions:
1. Your mobile phone has a minimum 30 days of the original manufactures warranty remaining prior to the date of purchase of this insurance product.
2. Your mobile phone was originally purchased new in Australia.
3. Your mobile phone is in working order with no known faults at the time of purchase of this insurance product.
4. You are a permanent resident of Australia.
I guess since you're technically buying it off an Australian-based company, you're eligible for the warranty.

Maybe I'll buy the phone through my company and then sell it to myself as an employee... then go warranty?

Has anyone else noticed on the Handtec site it has changed the status of the Galaxy S II from "Pre order" to "Shipped within 10 Days"

And when you click on the item it says "Stock Update: Stock expected 27th April - Shipping 28th April." w00t!
