I tried to get velocity they told me I can only get the 30mbit connection

What area are you in?

The guy said velocity is only for people in business areas. Sounded like bs to me but they said I couldnt get it.

Maybe worth trying someone else?

Id be happy to pay 80 a month

Do you have to get a phone line to get that price or is it standalone?

Thanks

its a fiber optic connection and only available within "Telstra Smart Communities", which are pretty much selected new estates

You can see a list here: http://www.telstra.com.au/smartcommu...community.html

I have to deal with 30mb/s for now (

thanks for the info

Any idea when the rest of the areas will be upgraded?

EDIT: What connection speed do you actually get? the rep said it should be close to 30 so im guessing at least 20.

It is unlikely they ever will. If your not on that list, and your not a brand new estate that has been selected as a 'smart community', I doubt Telstra is going to bother, especially with the roll out of NBN.

yeah the guy on the phone said its potential testing for NBN, as this is fibre optic technology.

So 30mbit/s is copper, and this fibre optic is 100mbit/s

this is my speed on the up to 30mbit/s service (the best possible without the new cabling)

So i get around 10-15 (this was taken on wireless on laptop)

Which results in up to 3mb/s downloads from telstra servers

This really doesn't make any sense.

A 30Mbit service will give you roughly 3MB/s (depending on server), yet your speed test only shows 9.85Mbit which would give you almost 1MB/s.

It would seem your wireless router is letting you down, or you don't really understand what's going on?!?

As for the OP... your upload is faster than my download

total bullshit. I used to support the technology. it's just a FTTP retail offering, it was around long before the NBN was even mooted.

that is entirely possible. or it's a typical case of someone pulling an answer out of their arse instead of being HONEST with a customer.

Internal or external ONT? I remember the external could only do 96 odd m/bit where as the internal one was full 100m/bit to telstra speed test servers.
