8 core processor in a X79 LGA2011 socket, hopefully before the Ivy Bridge release.

*Looks at desktop roadmap*
Hmmm... Looks like Ivy Bridge with Panther Point in 2012 for me.

I know already I cant afford to go X79 when its released.
I'm holding out until Rockwell (second gen Haswell) is the Current, and upgrading from Nehalem Enthusiast platform to that! ![]() 2014 baby! think I can afford an upgrade then

yer rockwell (second gen of haswell, 22nm) is 2014 afaik.
or maybe its 18nm die, eitherway, I wont early adopt haswell. Not like I had it bad on nehalem, was the best early adoption, only costly. but have decided for my next upgrade, i'll be more patient and cautious

So I am a little confused here. Ivy Bridge is a die shrink so does that mean it needs a new Chipset and Motherboard? Will it work on either P67 and X79?
The CPUs for X79 are going to be based on Sandy Bridge architecture? |

Wow, I just bought an 1155 board, 2600K CPU and 8GB of DDR3.
Now this new stuff comes to my attention. I guess it's just the nature of PC tech and how quickly the new stuff comes out. Last edited by ElBeasto; 2nd April 2011 at 12:21 PM. |

Nothing's worse for the wallet than gear lust!
![]() EDIT: At least X79 uses DDR3, something can be carted over to the new socket! Last edited by ElBeasto; 2nd April 2011 at 8:54 PM. |
