That's how I felt when I first put my SATA2 SSD in...

But not it's starting to feel slower.

I think it's time to upgrade the HD as well, but I just don't want to have to re-install windows, but alas, it must be done, loading times in games, and time saving is a priority

ahh that review is crappy, using only an ES cpu not the final product, only using 1 gtx 580 and testing games on limited limited res. Wait for the offical reviews tonight my friend before you make your mind up.

oh, i didnt know it was a ES chip...i think ill wait for some of well known XS guys to get there hands on it or for the professional reviews to go live.

with tech moving so fast is there any point in upgrading to a new socket when it is released when 90% of what regular people do doesn't use ANY of that power?

Depends what you want to use it for, I will be using 4 gtx 580s so i think the more cpu power the better, everyones needs are different, if you are only planning on using 1 gfx card or only planning to browse the net than its probably over kill.

Nice xD

My new one is doing 2450MHz DDR so I'm all happy now

I can boot at 2500MHz DDR on this new chip as well. But can't get into Windows. I think it's more the RAM, though, then the CPU to be honest.

I'll chase up more RAM over the coming weeks anyway

try 1 stick, high vtt and vsa, 1.74vdimm, boot in at 2400, clock up in windows, when it freezes, drop in another stick, if they both freeze at the same point in windows is it more than likely your IMC limit

Well the course im doing at uni where going to be using programs like 3ds max/maya and adobe programs and later on use game engines for a project so i think the CPU power will be needed. Plus im wanting to a have a setup of 3xGTX 580 3GB (only for the res im running) and a sound card and TV tuner (this is doable on my current motherboard AFAIK).

i think a 1366 hex would be a good "cheap" upgrade and will last me for a couple of years so going skt 2011 now would mean new mobo, cpu, ram etc which defeats the point as i only upgraded to my current setup late last year (December 2010)

Yet heaps of people moved to 1155 from 1366 for negligible gains. So what’s going to stop people now! people like the latest and greatest no matter how small the gains.

I dont think its much to do with E-peen, but people enjoying their hobby. Personally im just a 20 year old, uni student, and my switch from the 2500k to a 3960X Will yield me no benefits what so ever. i spend most of my computer time playing games, surfing the internet and when i get the urge, fiddle movie editing ect ect. Computer building, modding and using is a hobby to me, and i have the extra cash for a new expensive build. and this is what im going to be spending it on.

oh and i want a big E-peen .

Change for me (new motherboard, cpu, psu, graphics card) will be partly for epeen, partly for gaming, and partly for uni/CAD work. Not to say that my current system does fine, just new stuff yay! The difference should mean faster computing, having SATA3 and USB3, and yea, thats pretty much it. But fun nontheless

I wouldnt be considering this upgrade, except that I have a huge render project (personal) coming up soon, after I finish the modelling / animation anyway...so later 2012 Q1 / early Q2

http://www.flickr.com/photos/6487232...n/photostream/

5:15 on a Q6600
3:57 on a X5570
2:19 on a 2600K

as a benchmark, i'd like to get it under a min...at least (hence considering SR3)
