Default Moving Partition...

Right now, I have my c: (Win2k), d: (Win.NET) and e: (RH7.3). Win2k/.NET a fux0red. I want to backup/image my linux partition, copy it to c:, change d and e to one partition, then put win98 (for some games) on c: and rh7.3 on the d. In the end it should be something like this..

C: 18G (Win98)
D: 20G (Linux)

Also, atm I have grub as my boot loader (installed in the MBR).

Any ideas??

EDIT: Win2k/.NET are on FAT32. RH7.3 is on Ext3.

low level format. works every time.

serriously though, try learning a little more about partitions first. Drive letters are only strictly sequential under dos/win98, and even then the letter tells you nothing of the partition type.

if you really want to move/mirror a parition, have a look at partition magic. If your uncertain, a better bet is to just wipe your parition table and start over, it'll save you the time of realising you've screwed it up latter.

Read the docs for "parted" under linux. Great little program. Just recently used it for a job resizing linux partitions for a client (the person who set it up gave rediculous partition sizes to /usr etc and left hardly any for /home ). I had no problems copying, resizing and deleting ext3 partitions with this program.

Partition magic cannot currently manipulate ext3fs. It works fine however if you convert the partition back to ext2, then after moving/resizing or whatever, convert it back to ext3 again. At least thats what powerquest recommend in their FAQ (I havent actually tried it).
Personally, I'd just use parted.

Daniel, since your Win is fux0red, you have no problem. Just tar or copy (cp -a) the linux partition around. No need to use dodgy tools. only grub or lilo need to be re-installed afterwards. Have boot disk or boot CD handy.

partition changes with any form of windows involved can be lethal - I won't go into that topic tonight...
