Default GXT 275 -> GTX 570 - Worth it?

Hi all

My gtx 277 is the oldest part in my machine and im wondering if its worth upgrading to a 570 to go with the 27" monitor arriving this week.

Looking at the Inno3d gtx 570 for ~$380.

Thoughts? Options/Ideas?

Paul

What type of 27" monitor is it? Is it like the Dell U2711 with 2560x1440 resolution or the cheaper ones which are 1920x1080?

Lolz, does it matter what res? It's going to be a huge upgrade either way. You'll definitely notice the gains. If your thinking Innod3D though, how about considering Gainward, PCCASEGEAR has them for $350

Totally pwns the 275.

Another option would be the HD6970, for basically the same money. Better performance overall, but of course it depends on the extra features you might want, plus maybe brand loyalty or preference.

Just a thought, though.

i have both 570gtx and 6950 flashed to 6970bios.

either way you'll be happy, but i think best value is getting the 6950 for $250~ and flashing it.

As someone that upgraded from two GTX275's in NVS to two GTX570's in NVS, I can say that you will see roughly a 70% gain in performance.

The best thing about sticking with NV is that you get to continue to use the NV control panel....As opposed to the alternative....

^^ quite a bit off... a 480 will smack a 560, and a 295 in modern games.

480 = 570 in some higher in some a little lower.

As far as 295 = 480, maybe in one or two games, but lack of dx11 really means not apples to apples and there are a heap where the 480 trounces the 295. (I have had both so can honestly say from my experience...)

Yes, the upgrade was very worth it - BF2 blew me away!

Now, is there any point keeping the 275 in the system as a physx only controller?

Will it make any difference whatsoever? I doubt it but worth a shot.

It'll work as PhysX card - a bit overkill but it'll mean you can keep it (PhysX settings) on high all the time . Test out Mafia 2 or Batman AA to see the difference.

Yes, very worth it. Went from a 275 to a 470.

Benchmarks here: http://gm.stackunderflow.com/blog/pi...ry.php?id=152:

GTX275 and E8500 at 3.3GHZ:
3dMark Vantage: 13480 3dMarks, 34158 CPU, 11216 GPU
3dMark 06: 14839 3DMarks, 6828 SM 2.0, 7545 SM 3.0, 2988 CPU
Fur(ry)Mark: 1920x1200 Fullscreen, 60000ms, MSAA off: 4037 points
X-Plane 9: Extreme res, 3x1680x1050 multihead, 15nm visibility: ~20fps

GTX470 and E8500 at 3518MHZ:
3dMark Vantage: 16790 3dmarks, 38769 CPU, 14122 GPU
3dMark 06: 16268 3dMarks, 6969 SM 2.0, 9103 SM 3.0, 3127 CPU
FurMark: same as above: 4177 points
X-Plane 9: ~25FPS, same settings, but I think it's actually achieving 15nm. This is without Nvidia eyefinity... i mean surround.
Reboot test: All 3 screens work, every time

Only annoyance is that I actually bought the GT220 because the fan in the card it's replacing is annoyingly loud, but MSI Afterburner allows you to adjust it down a bit.

The 275 wont do anything the 570 cant with Physx other then create heat and waste power. Tried it and its not worth it. Sell the 275 or keep it as a spare.

YOU NEED TO RUN CPU AT 3.6 (SWEET SPOT) TO GET THE BEST OUT BTH CARDS.. + AND CPU NOT SAME SPEED.. RRESULTS INVALID.. AS CPU HOLDING BACK GRAPH CARD..
