I would opt for the RT one and keep my gaming laptop or replace it with a desktop gaming machine.

VERY excited about this

I'm way more excited than I though I'd be.. I haven't wanted to buy something this much since I was a kid!

The more I think about this device the better the Transformer Prime is in comparison.

Prime - keyboard dock has USB and EXTRA BATTERY.

Prime - can be used on your lap on the couch in a similar manner to a laptop.

Don't get me wrong this tablet is sex but the TF Prime just has that edge in it's form factor.

Surface - must be used on something like a desk

Surface - Keyboard has no other feature other than being a keyboard.

Surface is like an iPad with a bunch of bits attached not a revolution of the form factor in the way a Transformer is.

I think they are catering to different markets.
The Transfomer Prime will be much more expensive, and appeal to people who want a laptop replacement.

The Surface is for people who have a laptop or desktop PC and want a tablet.

Although your assessment is correct

And by that assessment I can't wait to see ASUS' Windows 8 tablet, it should be awesome...

Why can't it be used as a tablet?

That's why people are excited today, because it's windows 8, not so much the hardware, which is really nice, but still it's more the fact I can have a fully functional tablet, that's how I see it anyway.

Why is the prime a 'revolutionary' design? I don't know much about it. But it looks like a tablet that docks into a keyboard dock? Acer had one that does the same thing..

I think the best thing MS has done here is set a quality benchmark for all the OEM's.
The largest problem Windows has (and has always had) is that OEM's tend not to make the highest quality products with the exception of a few in the past.

If ASUS or any other OEM can make something that is as good a quality as Surface then i think they are all going to be pretty awesome...

It's for people who either don't have any PC yet, or want to replace their desktop system with something smaller, lighter, portable, and easy to use.

It's a tablet.

Not correct. If you flip the cover around to the back, it becomes a tablet.

Well, the keyboard is the keyboard + and doubles as cover.

Not correct. Surface offers full fledged PC functions + a keyboard. It's much more than an iPad, yet still has all advantages of a tablet. It also goes beyond the transformer:

Quote:
The Type Cover and Touch Cover are evolved beyond the keyboard docks on tablets like Asus' Transformer series. There, the dock is a physical component that turns the tablet into a netbook-like clamshell. The keyboard in Microsoft's innovative "smart" covers is the tablet keyboard you've always dreamed of: versatile, lightweight, functional, and a true aid to your productivity.

Lightweight? One model is 676g; the other is 903g. That's not lightweight! It's also thicker than a housebrick.

actually it's LESS flexible than a Transformer because the transformer will sit on your lap when you are say sitting on the couch - this thing is a frankenstein with a kick stand and a flexible keyboard... this means it HAS to sit on a desk.

It's really a downside.

The Surface is 676g and The New iPad is 652g (difference of 24g)
Surface is 9.3mm and The New iPad is 9.4mm (difference of 0.1mm)

If you are refering to the Surface Pro....well its 13.5mm and its basically a freaking ultrabook so the weight is understandable. Not sure what house bricks you are using, but i wouldnt even call that very thick.

Oh and for your reference i got the specs from here

You do realise you can just type on the touch screen like an iPad right when you dont want to use the keyboard?

what?

The TP is just like a little lappie when you sit down OR it's a tablet, the Surface cannot be like a little laptop making it less flexible.

as you can with a Prime, my point is that it's less flexible
