Bloddy hell!!! That thing is way old! Like the Hp-UX gear that i use @ work.

I would check out maybe Debian or Red Hat linux's Hardware compat list's, and see if they can be run on your old Hp server.

Then you could play with something more modern!

Cheers

PS: How much RAM does the boxen have?? I'm curious...

They are huge bastard's arn't they!!!

If it has at least 64mb of ram ,which it probably has a good chance of having, as it's a server, it would be sweat for a light load linux server. I wonder if you could run smoothwall on it?? lol it would make a really differanct router/firewall boxen wouldn't it??

Cheers

/me raises his hand for any other spare unix beasts around

I'd love an old HP-RISC, Sparc(64) or Alpha box. It would make my decade

EDIT - The arch's supported by debian: Alpha, Arm, HPPS, i386, IA64, m86k, Mips, PPC, S390, Sparc. Is HPPS the hp-risc arch? Mips is SGI, Sparc is SUN, Alpha is Compaq, and ppc/m86k are apple, but I'm not sure of Arm, HPPS or s390.

EDIT - Come to think of it, isn't ARM Motorolla's risc chip?

Default HP-UX

Hi,
HP9000 Unix systems contain HP's PA-RISC CPU's in them.
You can find out about the port of Linux to these machines at
http://www.parisc-linux.org

Now, that being said, there is very few machines that will be fully functional with the Linux operating system due to the fact that older 9000's have HP propietary Busses such as HP-PB and HSC, which there isnt too much information on (from memory).

Depending on the machine you have will depend on what Versionof HP-UX you can run on them.. some of the older machines wont run anything Higher than HPUX 10.20 which is now obsolete, although, it will run ok.

HPUX is a great operating system, and personally, even if the machine did fully run linux, i wouldnt use it.. ever.

Post me the Model number from the front and/or the product number and i'll dig up some information on what you can run on it, and the like...

cheers,

kayjay
