Now that is cool!

Hoping to have my hands on my unit by the time my holidays are over at the end of the month...

Hoping to still find some time to tinker with it soon afterwards tho!

Can someone please explain this setup to get windows running?

I understand the RPi is running Citrix on debian, then what? Run Iceweasel inside Citrix to run a vm of Windows?

edit: you've guys seen this lego box for it right?

You're just using citrix/terminal services and the raspberry pi is like a thin client.

think of it as multiple Raspberry Pi's RDP-ing into a server or group of servers.

The Pi is just running a client to connect to the server, not a VM.

Raspberry Pi is a great platform for something like LTSP.

soo... has anyone overclocked it? I haven't looked at the details for the board or SOC, but I assume you'd have to change a crystal and maybe tell the kernel manually what speed you're running at so it can run the system clock correctly.

edit: oh cool, you can just specify a speed to the boot loader:

So the server runs a VM of windows and the RPi rdp to that Windows session right?

The armv11's have never really overclocked well, and I imagine this will be no different. I recall reading the highest the RPi team got for a stable overclock was 800mhz. There is probably a little extra wiggle room with some voltage tweaking...but only time will tell.

that is one way to do it. In the corporate sector you'd use a terminal server to host windows sessions (like lots of people RPD-ing into the same server)

As you posted this, a mate just sent me a message to let me know he's ordered it.

Looks it could be the year of the mini/micro/low powered pc.

I'm still keen on this one given how much more headroom you get with 1GB RAM (compared to 256mb on the RaspPi which is really limiting);

http://www.fxitech.com/products/

Shipping later this month. But $200... Well, it's an extra $140 for a 1.2Ghz processor (compared to RPi's 700mhz), a dedicated 1GHz GPU and built-in WiFi & Bluetooth.

I am after a small, headless, ultra-low powered device so I'm really wondering what the best option is in the long run.

Might wait until the Candy has landed and there are reports of how well it withstands 'always on' operation after a few months before I make my decision. Because it's not like I'd be able to get a RaspPi in that time anyway!

Looks good and is at a good price point for me. The only thing I wish it had was a physical ethernet interface. Sure there's wireless but I don't feel as comfortable with it as I do ethernet... particularly given my application of choice means it will be well out of reach 24/7.

I prefer Ethernet as well, i feel so much more comfortable with it.

Thinking about getting a male to male hdmi gender changer with the Allwinner and connect it directly to the back of my TV with XMBC Or connect it to the HDMI monitors at work and use it as a thin client (if possible).

The options are endless. I think im going to end up buying more then one.
