does WOL actually work as adveritised ?

Is there such a thing as sleep after inactivity after say X minutes/hours ?

Looks like windows media center is still pretty flaky in regards to sending the packet for this feature.

Its worth noting that this server does not support S3 suspend...WOL and Wake-on-USB should work tho.

ordered one off HP this morning...

now gotta figure out how to configure it to be a NAS for my iMac and WDTV Live. Whats the 'easiest' way of getting my 2 x 750GB drives up and running...

Eventually I'll go down a RAID5 h/w pathway, but alas homeloan application won't allow major spending

Managed to order 4 ...

Should be nice to retire the CM stacker for something a little more power friendly.
Usb boot, linux + mdadm, xbmc ... should be fun.

Anyone got an answer to my raid 5 question? Are most people not using raid?

Also I noticed a lot of people upgrading theirs to 4gb or 8gb but is this really necessary if using as a NAS? I only ask as NAS's such as QNAP and Synology use only 1gb of ram...

depends what OS you want to use, linux mdadm is piss easy to setup. I'm currently rebuilding my array at about 90MB/s after removing one of the drives and putting it back in.

Thanks SaTaN, sounds good.

I am not sure which OS I want to use, I only know that most people talk about freeNAS because it is apparently easy to set up.

I am wanting to use it purely as a NAS, connect to my router and give access to other PC's and mainly my media players (Boxee Box and PS3).
Was going to save up for a Synology or QNAP but this was too good to pass up. What OS/setup would you recommend? I wanted RAID 5 but not at the expense of reliability...

Im pretty much sold on this, but one quick question. I will be putting WHS 2011 on it, and has anyone tested how well the Microserver responds when serving two HD WTV files via the media centre intergration?

Riff.

I have bought 6 of these kits and cant fault them. Ships in less than a week.
Don't forget the crucial ram that is actually for this server, not just generic RAM that works in this server.
