Default N40L Sleep

I was also worried about the lack of sleep ability, but mine sleeps anyway! I'm not certain what level of sleep (S3 etc) but it does sleep & then resume sometimes (when no recordings are scheduled for a time).

Otherwise I see what is scheduled & shut down when there is a significant gap between bookings.

I'm running Win 7 Home P (64 bit) with a 5450 GPU & a Quad tuner card.

Cheers

Dennis

Has anyone tried a 4tb hdd gutted out of a seagate 4tb go flex in a microserver with any luck yet?

My purchase of one is riding on whether they will work with 4tb drives.

Thanks

Question All my drives in UDMA mode 2?

Greetings,

I just got a new HP Microserver recently, N40L version. Installed a SATA DVD ROM, and flashed the modified BIOS from the first post (first link under eSATA & Additional SATA/SAS port related). Pretty sure I made the actual change in the BIOS, but its been a few weeks, and I dont remember 100%.

Regardless of that, my understanding of the BIOS discussion is that the modded BIOS only affects SATA ports 4/5, right?

I have 4 SATA hard drives in my server, and all four are reporting via HD Tune, that they are operating in UDMA Mode 2 (maybe I should say crawling, not operating!). All four report that the support either UDMA 5 or 6.

do I need to go into each AHCI Port on the AHCI Settings page to adjust this, to get the drives up to their maximum speed? If not, where do I make this change? I didnt see it in the Device Manager anywhere (WHS2011), but didnt expect to find it there either.

Appreciate any help on this one, thanks in advance!

Any idea how the auto shutdown software works with whs2011? Or does WHS2011 already support this somehow?

Thanks

Don't know as yet, not received my two deliveries.

looking here
http://en-au-support.belkin.com/app/...ckpRNkVlUGs%3D

just software you load to monitor it and shutdown the server after power fails? maybe you can set a specific timeout or shutdown sequence etc?

Hey guys,

New here, and new to all this server stuff!

I've decided to get a N40L from warcom at around $300. I was just wondering what the prices of this have been in the past? I found some threads mentioning that the N36L was under $200 at one point...Have these things gone up in price lately?

I'm planning to run this as a media server (initially thought of purchasing a NAS, but the thought of having only two-bays over $200 kinda put me off). I understand that S3 Sleep isn't supported, are there any alternatives to this, or any other alternatives to save on electricity costs?

I've also read a bit about FreeNAS on the microserver. However, I keep finding posts relating to everyone installing the OS on a USB. Can't I simply partition the 250GB hdd bundled with the microserver and install the OS onto one of those partitions? The reason I ask is that I don't own any usb drives

Edit: Just read a few more posts comparing Windows Home Server and FreeNAS Now it's made me more confused and I can't decide...

Thanks!

these things don't use that much power at all. how much more a power saving do you reckon you want to make?

I'm aware that they're cheap, but wouldn't it be better (faster?) to run it off the hdd instead?

6x 3TB 3.5" HDD
1x 60GB 2.5" SSD

my SSD is not even screwed down. all i got to do is slide it out of the gap under the 5.25" tray and remove then replace if it goes faulty. yes a USB us easier still however my SSD is not that hard to remove if it fails.

for the record my SSD is the boot drive.

Thanks guys.

Did a bit more googling around. Within some documentation on the FreeNAS website, it states that the OS will consume the entire drive and not allow you to store data on the rest of the disk.
