I think a lot of old school fps gamers in general will find it easy to adapt to the skiing mechanics as we had to use strafe jumping, ramp jumping, rocket jumping etc to stay competitive. I know in action quake 2, you never walked/ran anywhere, we used to strafe and ramp jump our way around the maps. I think that game has helped me with judgement of how to land to gain max speed etc. If you land a bit hard in aq2, you broke your legs and had to bandage.. most of the time, that meant death. |

Just grabbed this the other day been having a blast. One thing that would be cool, I reckon your "skiis" should leave tracks. Perhaps burnt patches of ground. The maps would start out pristine and then be a scoured mess by the end. Apart from looking cool, strategically it would give a visual indication of the most travelled routes.

Do they test, at all? There are a NUMBER of things that are clearly out of balance at the moment that should really have been sorted out in pre release testing.
Ski tracks however would be cool. They don't have to be too persistent (they would be decals and decals always seem to murder frame rates) but would be a fun addition. Also I think the movement sounds in general could use a tweak. Been playing tribes vengeance (sp, ok) recently and the suits all sound a lot more mechanical.

Older Cows Server
Public CTF server. Standard rules. 1 sentinel per team No Temple Ruins No Sunstar Gentlemen's agreement - no plasma gun. Would have liked to ban the Raider, but that server option doesn't work. About the name - I am member of two communities, each of which don't have the critical mass to keep a custom server usefully occupied. However I think there are enough players from both communities to have the occasional casual 'b' grade scrim. The other community is The Older Gamers where most of the players have jobs, kids, partners and are allround nice blokes. Kinda like here ![]() The server is only up for another 8 days. It was a brief attempt in providing relief from plasma hitboxes. I've spent the gold, maybe we can get a session or two out of it. Friday night scrim? Saturday night. Sunday arvo? Preferences? Any interest? Skill level irrelevant ![]() If you are interested and you haven't gotten access to the OCAU Tribes Mumble server, please PM laidlow for access. Server details can be seen in the OP of this thread. Edit: Tonight: 9:30pm and onwards. Number of interested folk so far: 10 Last edited by RnR; 27th April 2012 at 5:55 PM. |
