Have a HTC Desire, stock rom 2.2 froyo (not rooted).
Just got me a Nexus 2. The ONLY thing the nexus 2 doesnt have is a SD slot. This is annoying. whats the "best" way to transfer EVERYTHING to the new phone without SD card ? Theres "mybackup" app which costs $5 and can do it on the cloud, but dont really want to pay for an app im only going to use once. Anyone know how i can go about this ? Sure i could manually reinstall every app, photos / vids, contacts, sms, etc.. but is there some sort of "streamlined" way of doing it ? Any suggestions id LOVE to hear.. cheers in advance.

Contacts and settings should do it automatically from your google account, for everything else use titanium backup.

OK.. after much searching around and stuffing around. You can backup your contact list to the SD card via the export option. Copy it via PC to your new SD card or however you want, and import it.
SMS restore & backup for the messages duties, work a charm. As for all your data / apps and what not. Only option you have is to write down your app list, and manually re-install each one again. App 2 SD can help a little, but its still a long process. Copy your SD card to your computer and then copy to your new one. As for all your data you actually want.. such as save game states, or special content, only way to get it is with a rooted phone. No other way of doing it. Sorta pisses me off a bit. i REALLY wish google got this sorted out and made an option to upload everything to the cloud and then dump it to a new device. Would be awesome for mirrored devices on the same account. Such as a tablet and phone combo or somethin. As for the nexus S itself. Its ok, still getting used to the new interface (was on sense, so vanilla is "different").

Titanium backup is 100% FAILBOAT.
crap, steer clear of it. IT DOESNT backup data properly, and thus, i lost everything. I tried 2 dry runs, and it couldnt do what i wanted. Everything is now lost.. Shoulda used mybackup and shelled out the $5 and put it to the cloud. Live and learn.

i don't understand why you frustrate yourself over such small matters.
- contacts get synced with your gmail address so theres no need to save anything, it goes wherever you go as long as you log in to that gmail account. - nexus s has an internal micro SD instead of external, the file structure would be still be /sdcard/, if you copy everything from your microSD to the pc and then copy back to nexus s, it won't make a damn difference except for the missing apps which you can recover back from Market. - pictures, movies, music were all from your MicroSD, nothing gets erased unless you force it to do so. - sms back up is child's play and theres no need to explain here, the first app from market under "sms back up" does exactly as needed. The back up folder will be in your microSD memory as .xml and can be restored anytime on the new phone. - if you really had a hard time remembering what apps you installed before, take a cheapo camera and take a picture of your old app drawer (and all your homescreens), a picture is still worth a thousand words (or more), or better yet, install ShootMe if you were rooted and just 'shake' the pictures into the microsd btw, your apps history does get saved to the cloud by Google (if you ticked "allow" on setup), when you log in your gmail account on the new phone and launch market, it should start installing back all the old apps...

I backed up everything manually first. All my contacts and SMS are fine.
The only thing im complaining about is the lack of app DATA. An example would be saved game state or high scores or extra things you have done in an app / game. It wouldnt touch any of this, and thats what was lost. sms backup & restore +, contact list to the cloud, manually installed each app i had first. Came out great.. I rooted my old desire and tried to save that extra data, which it couldnt do and ended up destroying it. Such is life really.
