If AMD is paying GF per working die, wouldn't GF just increase the cost per working die if yields were bad?

Quote:
Good find Stmok . Explains why AMD have been quiet about a release date, because they dont know when it will be released due to yield issues.
JF-AMD was saying on another forum they already have a set date for Bulldozer. Then again, he's a server guy.

The bad yields will only get better with time.

Yeah well people like your self need to get over it and accept it's going to take time. I want BD to be released as much as the next guy but bringing up that yields this and yields that will not make the release date any closer.

hardly, your ability to control parameters and figure out whats causing the bad yield have far more to do with it, that's why yields improve over time not because they go and change the process, thats why there's things like expected yield curves.

also if you believe charlie, he has been say for months that yield are llano specific issue and bulldozer and trinity yields have been far better. you will also notice that the release from AMD yeilds are directly link to Llano and no other chip.

There's also the off chance that it's just bullshit put out by AMD to cover their arse. Could be a million different things; the only thing that matters is that they haven't got enough chips to meet demand and it's a) costing them lost sales and b) disappointing to us because we want a new arch to muck around with.

So if the tray price for FX-8150 is US$245, what's its retail box price likely to be I wonder. I guess if you want to use AMD's heatsink and get the full retail warranty that's what you'll wanna buy.

I'm guessing, but since we usually get a little shafted with hardware here in Aus I would expect the top FX CPU to be just under $300 on launch.

I suspect so. OEMs and high-return customers like Cray supercomputing solutions are first. "Tier 1" countries like Japan, USA, etc get priority; as their market is larger. We'll probably get limited quantities to start off with. Supply will increase over the coming months.

If its a paper launch, you'll have more than a month to digest all those review articles.

Wouldn't expect it to be that much more.

1100t in the states (newegg) is 189, you can get it for about $10 more here

the 2600k is 315 on newegg, same price here

Something newer (and probably more relevant in terms of pricing) like the A8-3850 is $140 on newegg and can actually be had for 135 here

Yes but you forget the new tech tax that retailers will put on it.
