You said "there's no way anyone needed to wait for SP1". I assumed anyone meant everyone. :P Misunderstanding.

In the end, the debate isn't whether or not Windows 7 is a better OS. It's about whether it's worth the cash over Vista Ultimate that the OP already has (although I highly doubt they're still reading this). There's no doubt that Windows 7 is a better consumer OS than Vista. That said, if 7 didn't exist, I'd use Vista over XP in a heartbeat.

would never be the case in my world, i can whole heartedly assure you of that, and im talking about normal every day pc users, of which i can say i switched well over 500 users from vista back to XP.

i would personally never touch vista, and i dont even have a single vista installation disc in my vast collection, and i can honestly say i have only ever installed vista 3 times from scratch in my whole life.

but thats just me.

and heres the irony, got a call tonight from a former client (i do lots of computer work for the indian community here in hobart) and his work friend has a dv3-2105tu laptop with vista on it, and he wants it running XP, and its a rare case for me that i cant get XP drivers for that laptop from the HP download centre, they dont release them, and this is the one thing that annoys me, having to scrounge for XP drivers for newer model laptops that dont support XP.

i found 16 xp drivers ok, but got to slip the sata drivers into the XP image and install it, then install the MS-UAA drivers before installing some of the other required device drivers.

its a pain in the butt, but he wants XP mainly because vista wont run some Oracle software he need to run on his laptop ???

The compatibility excuse doesnt work anymore. SP2 has removed nearly every single problem you could think of, if XP can run it, so can Vista

Vista situation as I remember working in retail:

- Cheap notebooks with single core Celeron CPU
- 512 MB Ram
- Shared graphics
- Vista
- Telstra cards didn't work for 6 months
- Printers didn't work for 6 months
- TV tuner and other accessories we sold didn't work for 6 month

W7 situation as I remember:

- Cheap notebooks with dual Core Celeron CPU
- 2 GB Ram
- W7
- Drivers readily available or use Vista drivers

So IMO not everything is the fault of Vista, but a combination of many factors. Poor hardware availability at that time and lack of drivers (Big booo to Telstra and all the other manufacturers for totally not preparing for Vista).

So yea Vista was the pipe cleaner for W7

But on a decent hardware back in the day, and after SP1 and with propper drivers, Vista was pretty good.

Vista at launch was a pain, bugs left/right/center, slow and nearly no hardware support.

Fastfoward a few years it's a great operating system, i prefer it over 7 for the interface. Never have a single issue with it with SP2, runs very fast, is rock solid stable and imo has a better gui than 7.

I am using Vista Ultimate 64 SP2, No problems up until now as I cant update Adobe Flash player and its causing a bunch of head aches, I guess eventually support for Vista will dry up and we will be forced to upgrade to a new Ops Sys..That may be sooner rather than later.

Uninstall flash player

Install:
Flash Player 11.3.300.257 (IE)

Flash Player 11.3.300.262 (Non-IE)

This should solve all your flash issues
