1. Its coming eventually, latest next year
Come on...thats what people have been speculating for years now since the 5D2 came out expecting Nikon to do something about it. Logic would have it that Nikon do not want to cannibalize their flagship sales os why would they release a body with a sensor superior to the D3 first? Wouldnt a D4 been more logical? And even if the D4 were to be released it would be a good 18months before they release a smaller size cousin of the D4 which might be a D800. 2. its 100% going to be better than D700 Obviously. I wouldnt expect any thing else. But not price wise. 3. its not like he currently doesnt have a camera and cant take any photos with it So its an issue of want not need. Come one Kwax... you know it..you WANT one so buy it.

as internet influences, the best thing we can do is to go: BUY BUY BUY that D700 and then when the D800 comes BUY BUY BUY!

I like that Syn.. I think its definitely what everyone should do. Mainly because its a straight forward answer which might do away with the umming and ahhhing that goes on.
This whole 'Should I? Shouldnt I?' indecision blah blah is just tiring.. who are randoms on the internet to tell you and convince you to spend your hard earned money or not. Its a totally personal decision, and only you will know if you have the need to upgrade .. but id say 99.9% of the time the photographer needs an upgrade, not the camera. In regards to waiting or not, what are you waiting for in the d800 that the d700 cannot do? When I answered those questions I couldnt think of anything It will do things better, it might have some shiny new features which I think damn.. that would be handy! And if it were out now then yes it would be a comparison in price vs specs.. d700 vs d800 but in the real world and reality no.. there wasnt any feature that I could personally think I would want/need on the d800 that isnt covered by the d700 which I could have now.. and did on the same day I ordered it

Actually, if you read kwax' post, he said he wants the D700, but doesn't know if he should buy now, or wait for the price to fall. In which case, I say, buy now, if you can. You'll be waiting a while for a substantial drop...

Its just monetary value. If you got paid gigs you need the upgrade for now, then buy. If you dont and its just you being impatient. Then dont. |

Yeah to add some backstory. The upgrade would be an investment as I would use it to make money.
So ie..i do alot of event work, clubs, live bands, sports etc. I currently shoot with d90,d7000 and i rent or borrow a d700 when i get the big gigs. But id just like to have my own one so i dont have to depend on others. Just wondering if its cheaper later and worth the wait. Thought it would be comming out end of this month or the next but if its next year than i will probably make the purchase on the d700. |

Considering the D7k's low-light performance, D800 will be something special I reckon.

Really? For all we know, it could be the D3s sensor, shoehorned into the D700 body.

I've got a D7k and if this is the goods I'd make the switch.

Do you think that these FX semi pro bodies will ever adopt SD cards over CF memory? Just thinking that SD is slowly but surely getting faster and larger in capacity, plus the smaller size allows for two card slots in the body ala the 7DK. |
