Default Please help! Can't change rom - Clockwork Mod can't see my zip files!

Goddammit, just spent all day trying to change the rom on my phone. Everything that could go wrong, has.

I'm in ClockworkMod, and when I go to 'choose zip from sd card' in 'install zip from sd card', none of the zip files I've put onto the SD card are coming up.

Any idea what on earth is going on?

Interestingly, not even ES file explorer can spot the ZIP files, yet windows explorer can.

Using a HTC Desire. currently using T-mod, and I've flashed my CWM to Alpharev to get S-Off. Trying to switch over to MIUI-AU

have you tried switching to another micro SD?

Did a test by copying, via windows explorer, an MP3 file.

The phone can't see it.

So that helps, but I still have no idea....

Even created a directory, still nothing.

firstly, try turning off the phone and back on again.

are you able to do a nandroid back up of your current rom?

make one and then factory reset without wiping the micro sd

though you shouldn't need to try this at all.

best suggestion is still to locate a spare micro sd, from anyone's phone to try, 1gb or 2gb doesn't matter.

are you trying to read from the micro sd card or the internal SD card?

I've never installed off of a micro sd, don't think you even can (??). Pretty sure when clockwork says SD it's talking about your internal SD.

In any case, make sure you're copying to your internal SD and not the micro SD. AND make sure it's on the root of your internal SD card i.e. don't put it in a folder somewhere.

The only time i had an issue with the SD card not being recognised was when it somehow corrupted itself on my SGS1. Had to completely reformat the phone. If you can't see your files/folders on that, you've got bigger issues

I think you might be confused

ClockWork Mod/Amon Ra installs .zip via micro SD

There's no need to mess around with internal memory as that area is usually in Read-Only mode.

regardless of what memory it is, nothing I put onto the Fat32 partition is being picked up by the phone.

ooooh I just realised something - you've got a HTC phone. I jumped from an SGS2 thread to this one and still had SGS in mind

CWM in SGS will flash .zip files from micro SD too

Probably, but never done it that way. From the ROMs I've tried, the instructions have always been put it on the internal SD, I assume it's because the code must have links to a specific path.

Sorry Captain, not really sure how HTCs behave, on SGS if something goes wrong I usually go back to 'Download' mode and flash it back to stock using a windows app (odin)

I believe the SGS internal SD is split into 2? the system restricted area and the familar SD card file tree. The external SD tree is additional to the Android phones with internal SD.
In HTC Desire/Nexus 1 there never was a huge internal memory so it relies everything on the microSD, file structure also similar to SGS' own internal SD.

One of the top SGS Rom, Darky's ROM, uses CWM to flash the .zip file via recovery.

Tried enabling mass storage from within clockwork recovery under mount I think, then copying the zip?

I usually forget to enable mass storage from within the phone every time I flash something so I end up doing it that way. Otherwise I'd back everything up then reformat the sdcard with gparted fat32/ext3/4 and try again.
