My setup, with a Filco Majestouch 10keyless Browns
Got a regular Majestouch coming in the mail soon with Blues, though will probably give it to my Stepfather (he's a writer who is in awe of my ability to touchtype, maybe it will give him that 'nudge' )

I don't get why people buy the tenkeyless.
I couldn't live without a numpad

Edit: love the mousepad btw

Edit: did you steal that swiss army knife from my house? I had one exactly like it for years then one day it was gone

I don't do anything related to numbers in my day to day life. I can live with inputting numbers with the number line, BUT I went to play a game the other day (Wings of Prey) and realised that I need the numpad for setting trim on the plane =[ FML! Only time i've truly needed it

Haha, that mousepad is the Xtrac Ripper XXL, i love it, though it gets a tad dirty sometimes

I've had the Swiss Army Knife since I was 7, Dad bought it for my birthday, rofl. Probably not the wisest present for a 7 year old, but it is awesome nonetheless. I lost the ball point pen out of it years ago and I've never managed to source a replacement =[

I just find the number row too hard to guess where the numbers are when touch typing, and with the blank keycaps on the das ultimate it's nice to know I'm putting my fingers in the right place (), especially for passwords and such.

Yeah I have the same mousepad, it's covered in stains and burns (Lesson learnt, no soldering on your $40 mousepad ). Sooo cbf cleaning it.

Losing the pen ain't as bad as losing the whole thing lol

Hahaha, i'll bet I usually eat at my PC so i get crumbs and shit on the mousepad, tis' a bit annoying to clean I can't believe you decided to solder on it, rofl. I feel cautious even on resting my case on it!

Yeah, i guess. but the pen was a pretty epic piece of work, a small little ball point pen that came in SO useful!

Chocolate is the absolute worst thing for these mats. It gets all embedded in the fibres and it's all like sticky and tacky and the stain are really obvious

Gah I know exactly what you mean (Roccat Taito, but similar surface). It wasn't even me who got chocolate on it!

But for hard-to-remove stains, how can you go past... uh... toothpaste...

I don't get why people need backlit keyboards if they can touch type. The monitor sheds more than enough light to see a key if you really need it. I have no issues when needing to look for the secondary functions in the dark.

Is it just the aesthetics?

Not with me. I have the keyboard through necessity on a slideout keyboard tray which slides underneath the computer desk ergo nil lighting.

Plus lighthing is da sex with keyboards imo!

lighting on kb's is ok for lans, but its a bit wank.. partly agree with the touch typing thing. BUT it does make it useful for the extra keys sometimes.

the exact one i have. IBM model M5i, with a track ball, which works.

Currently its in storage as ive been on a laptop for a fair while now. Still keep it incase i go back to a desktop one day.

Each to their own.

If I could get by with a non backlit I would lol, I am not going to go and pay huge bickies for another computer desk when getting a backlit keyboard will alter the situation. I have had g15's on the slide out tray and they work brilliantly, just wanting to try a mechanical for a while.....

You do realise that Cherry browns are not silent...at all? The noise of them bottoming out is very pronounced! I'll be getting a cherry blue KB in the next few days so i'll be able to compare, but i don't find it very easy to keep the noise down with the browns.... Unless you try and not bottom out every key, which slows down my typing and is generally a huge pain in the ass

So going by that, what is the quietest cherry or non cherry based switch to look for. I hated my balck widow but would give a mechanical another go if I found something quieter and with backlit keys.

So I have been thinking about getting a mechanical keyboard for a while now, As I am starting to do more and more typing here at work. And there are a few other colleges who have left me in charge of finding a good keyboard for them as their Dell keys have basically worn through, and typing on them is now sloppy, after not even 6 months...

What mechanical keyboard would be best for someone who basically spends all day typing, and also has USB (do they all come with USB these days?)

How about this one?
