Awoke this morning to find two boxes (W7 Ultimate) stalled after loading P7621 units.
![]() The tracker said that they were unknown, but after updating it and restarting they seemed to be acceptable but the time per frame was way out there at ~13min and an ETA of over 8 hrs on an overclocked 480Meanwhile another box running (ptuh!)Vista(ptuh!) was happily crunching through a P7621 but the temp of the 460 had risen from a normal 70ish to 99 ![]() And sure enough, once the stalled units were a little way into their processing We sat there and watched the temp steadily rise to ridiculous heights. ![]() We have a GTX480 under water but the system has a slight instability that raises its head every 4 or 5 days (yes, yes, We are eventually going to do a fresh reinstall when We have time.) Try and run one of these P7621 on it and the system falls in a heap after about 10 min. Not wishing to fry good cards (We had the minions don asbestos suits and fan like mad to little avail) We scrubbed the units completely from Our systems (except for the Vista unit, which We kept out of curiosity and to observe) and managed to download apparently more user friendly units. ![]() One wonders if anyone else has experienced this phenomenon or are We just blessed?

Bit of talk about these over at FF, http://foldingforum.org/viewtopic.ph...t=7621#p193546 and http://foldingforum.org/viewtopic.php?f=24&t=19390

Hmm should be interesting to see if either of my 570's picked any of these up.

Thanks for that. We were perusing the forum but didn't see that.
With the card overclocked the ppd are still half what they normally are for any other unit, so if we are forced to drop the o/c gawd only knows how long they will take to complete. So its no advmethods for Us

funny i was about to post a new thread about this.
/keeps an eye on cards ![]() seems best to restore to factory default clock when you have one of these.. talking to one of the other guys looks like its ultimately headed to where stanford will award bonus points for quick return on GPU. Sounds like the wheels are in motion. |

Wondered why my GTX560s were so hot and why my mouse was so jumpy... have reset the GPUs back to default...

I just lost a 460 to thermal throttling and needed to reboot.
Now we really need RivaTuner to force performance 3d mode.

Mine is 5min per frame, 8 hr ETA, 14k ppd
Edit: Am I the only one *not* having trouble with this unit? Other than having to restart the client cos the core wasn't uploaded, origami's pretty happy. Top card @ 81C, bottom card at 62C, fans whirring away happily *touch wood* ![]() Edit2: Spoke too soon. Note to self, gfx cards don't like it when you try and fold *and* play Portal 2 at the same time

Are you the only one who has not overclocked anything?

Gah, main rig just picked up one of these under the v7 client and its all well and good, though looks like my server ran afoul of the core update issue reported on FF last night and went to sleep for a day waiting
, so need to restart that now, which explains my sudden drop in ppd, that said my SMP went from 6kppd to 12kppd with not having the gpu running.

I've been reading some info that the latest 280 drivers a much more stable and produce better ppd.
Theres a whisper that these new WU's use less CPU time and therefore give a bump to the overall ppd aswell. If anyone has a chance to put these to the test i'm sure we'd all be keen to know about it ![]() EDIT: ok so i can confirm now that BA will go up a couple kppd as well and GPU with 280 drivers are more stable and give maybe a 1-2kppd boost so we need to update drivers set fan to auto or higher speed pray our machines dont explode Last edited by RETARD; 20th August 2011 at 2:07 AM. |

Alright some more news ...
then sleep ![]() I can inform you all of my findings on my linux boxen CPU utilisation with old WU's - 25% CPU utilisation with new WU's - 9-10% OLD Temp - 46 deg C New temp - 53 deg C (there is no GPU overclocking under linux) this would explain the increase in heat as the card itself is taking more of the strain. Possibly those of you who run -smp 7 or 6 or what ever to allow some breathing space for the GPU to do its thing could get away with using all your available cores under these new clients. so whilst the increase in temp is something to monitor for now ... its a big plus for those of us who use SMP & GPU3 to fold |

I've seen an increase in my server, temps went from mid 60's to low 80's but that was with auto fan speed, installed afterburner and at 80% fan speed its down to high 60's again on my GTX570 reference 732/1464.
I'm running 275.33's , ppd is up around 1-2k over normal units on the gpu client, cpu usage is down and smp (amd 1100T -6 switch) ppd is up around 3-4k ppd, running win 7 hp 64bit. By comparison my factory OC Gigabyte 570 780/1560 in my main rig under the v7 client has the same unit running 266.58's, but is at 50% fan speed and 66degs, seems that ridiculous heatsink and 3 fans actually makes a difference but can't really tell ppd as its v7 client.

Done a couple here 5min 47sec frame time on average, no idea of PPD, I did get the outdated core, sleep for a day issue, took a few hrs before I noticed (sleeping)
