Default Somebody hacked my iTunes account

hi all

some low-life has hacked my iTunes account

i had $48 in there (from a $50 iTunes card) and received emails this morning about purchases from another device, and that my CC details had changed

checked my iTunes account this morning, and someone downloaded a FREE app called "Japan Life" (no idea what this is), but then proceeded to make in app purchases of $20.99, $20.99 and $5.49 (total $47.47)

iTunes is hopeless, you click "report a problem" and you have to go through 50,000 hoops just to log a problem

they left me with $0.55 in my account

they also deleted my CC details off my account, but this is probably a good thing (although now they may have my CC details)?

i've since changed my password and contacted Apple

anyone else been through this?

I'd be reporting a 'stolen' credit card to the banks immediately. Apple doesn't hide CC details if you're logged in, so they may have saved it and then removed it from your account. They could be holidaying in Europe all thanks to you!

Sorry to hear it! Out of curiousity, did you have an alphabet-only and/or dictionary word as your password? I wonder how it was otherwise done?

not so worried about the credit card, was an Amex and they're pretty good with fraudulent transactions in my experience

Happens ALL the time. Like ALL the time.

Good luck OP, but I wouldn't be too confident of seeing that money again. Just feel fortunate you aren't like countless others that have woken up one morning to have $2-3 grand missing on their credit card due to itunes accounts being broken in to. Of the 3-4 cases I've read of personally, it sorted itself out eventually for all but one individual who went through four months of loops to get the 4 grand he lost back as Apple refused to refund it..

2 x $20.99 charges reversed

awaiting notification on the $5.49 one

had to change password again!

Keylogger seems the likely suspect. Checked your own PC for viruses? Used a uni/campus/public pc to log into iTunes?

Bruteforcing a password with letters and numbers would take some time, and why would you bother with iTunes accounts when you can just hit up internet banking sites?

Itunes hacked? That's unpossible!

This thread reminds me of the blank stares I get when I tell someone the hard drive in their imac is faulty.

Apple stuff fails, and gets hacked too....

I had it happen a few weeks ago, I still think Apple got hacked since I know it wasn't on my end.

24 length complicated password not used anywhere else, no viruses or key-loggers on my PC and only one PC activated, but according to Apple its my fault

I was taken for close to $600 before and I quote "We noticed something unusual and closed your account for your safety"

Yeah unusual in that I've never bought an app the entire time I've owned my iPhone since free ones fit my needs just fine but it took me losing 600 bucks to "Original Gangstaz Street Creds" for you to finally shut things down "for my safety" ??? Thanks!

And trying to find a phone number to call on the iTunes website? fuhgeddaboudit

I ended up getting my money returned to my back account but it took a few days.

But now, even after letting Apple support know about it twice, when I log into iTunes the apps are still there for me to download.

No way that's going to happen...

From what I've read trying to figure out what happened (and there has been a ton of these hacks lately so finding others isn't hard) people like you who had cards emptied are basically SOL in regards to getting the money back.

Only CC Accounts (like me) and ClickandBuy Accounts have been getting their money returned.

All and all I'm pretty displeased with Apple at the moment and my payment options are going to remain "none" for the foreseeable future.

Wow, this is not good at all. For a company so large, just like the Sony hack episode, they should have the best security to protect our data and CC info. I am about to take my account down after reading this. Much the same as i did on my PS3 account....

This is just not good enough!

You weren't hacked. Your password was guessed and/or logged by malware.

Since I've been malware free since I've been using computers I'll just ignore your assumption.

Here is my old password since I no longer use it.

p2=SAcr_TrE6*B8E!edR$FrU

Yeah someone just guessed that out of thin air.
