Story here

ALL those expensive iPhone accessories you own, the stuff that plugs into the bottom of the device - speakers, docks, chargers etc. They're about to become obsolete.
Tech blog TechCrunch reports that Apple plans to change the design and size of the connector for the iPhone 5.
Im still not sold on the smaller dock. In the past when the iPhone has been updated, the previous model has still been sold. So when the iPhone 5 is released the 4s and perhaps the 3gs will still be available, so how will that work if one of them has a different dock connector?

If it is changed i hope it is a mag-safe style magnet clip that works either way you put it in.

Ouch. That's gonna be painful for everyone who bought a Bose iPhone dock and... well, any other iPhone-compatible docking device.

always found docks to be a bit of a gimmick, like there is wireless protocols that can basically handle most needs, bluetooth for music & wifi dlna for video.

they have always done this. even in the ipod days. sucks. hell even with the same connector none of the old chargers worked. yes they deliberately do it.

I'm sure a cheap and simple adaptor will never be released for it.

not the point i was making. when you got a perfectly working adaptor from an old(er) unit. you would at least think this would do. no. it does not work.

why spend any money albeit cheaper than apples one. when you got a perfectly working apple charger. oh no. we cant have that. we must force you to use a new charger just because.

But it may not be a new charger, simply a new cable..
