So,
after playing battlefield 3 today i noticed that my main monitor (samsung BX2450) was looking slightly different and was kind of straining my eyes, then after going on a website with a very fine checked background i noticed that it was flickering a bit when displaying that pattern. However my second monitor (an older benq LCD) is fine I've tried rolling the drivers back, updating them, doing a system restore and checking the refresh rate is on 60 and that there's no strange scaling options enabled and i've tried switching the monitors around on the ports on the graphics card (GTX 580) i can't figure it out please help

Go to the Nvidia Control Panel and check the settings there?
Try the monitor on a different PC to eliminate it as a cause?

does your monitor have a blacklight setting where it flashes at 50/60hz and not stayon constantly? its usually a gimmick option to reduce ghosting.
other then that, your screen is probably too bright that it hurts. youreally don tneed anymore than 10-20% of a screens brightness these days. my screen for example is on 40/100 brightness, 2/10 backlight and is also in eco mode and is more than bright enough to match the ceiling fluro lighting.

The BX2450 you have uses an 18-bit TN film panel; this means that when you are in true-colour mode (24 or 32 bit) the electronics inside the panel have to dither or change the colour that's being specified for a particular pixel to one closest to what the panel itself can actually display. Sometimes this is discernable, sometimes it isn't.
If it continues to annoy you, the only solution is to replace the monitor with one that uses a true 24-bit panel. |

What could have happened is the small microprocessor inside the monitor that's responsible (in part) for converting 24-bit into 18-bit has crashed or had a malfunction of some kind. Try going into the monitor's own built-in menu, loading the factory defaults and saving them, then turning the monitor off and unplugging it from the mains for 15-30 minutes.

it's hard to see but in the bottom right on the taskbar you can see slight vertical bars, it's easier to see in person, hard to focus on to take a pic though so, sorry about the quality. I've tried another DVI cable to no avail
it does that on the other computer i tried it on too, it didn't do it before

Turn PC off, take graphics card out, clean connectors then put it back in. Re-seating graphics card sometimes eliminate the issues. Also make sure all your cables are plugged in tight.

Try changing cables. If that still makes no difference it's definitely the monitor. Try resetting monitor to default factory settings. If that does nothing, then you'll need to RA it.
