Default Project: Double Tap (mame)

Hello all,
I got the arcade bug way back when, but at the time we had a new baby so time and money were a bit tight.
One afternoon I hacked up an old cupboard and threw together this.

This old girl has served me well, but its time to do it right.

6 years later, hes all grown up. raised on 1942 and Pang. hes raring to go.

Tomorrow we start cutting.
------------------------------
well we got a bit done today

Yup, its straight

And spot on.

I'm glad he approves.

The partially built mame cab that I bought doesn't have a control panel box made up yet. I'm interested on the final finish you get on it, and any challenges you encounter. I was thinking about getting one made by ozstickshop, I have heard good things about their work but have not seen them in the flesh.

Well it seems i jumped the gun a bit. last few weeks Ive had a router and a drill die on me. and waited for ages to get my slot cutter, but finally.

Progress

I had to go with the 19inch crt because i have two of them. its nice to have a backup, and later down the track an lcd will still fit in.

Amazing what you can get done on your days off.

My favorite tool at the moment. my adjustable circle cutter.

The speaker shelf is got some love today.

Its really hard to get a good shot of this but you get the idea. A bit of a blue glow going on there, looks better in person.

That took waay too long for a little glow. Eventually I suppose ill hook it up to a sound sensitive module get some RBG's in there for mp3's.

Looking good, have you decided on a control board layout - I always recommend that people only have a traditional two stick layout (as opposed to the mecha-MAME layouts with several sticks and trackballs), much easier to work with.

Yeah I got the CP and how everything will go together worked out in my head (which is a first).
I'm the same, its an arcade machine, to play arcade games, i have it running super nintendo, n64 sega blah blah, but have decided to scrap it all. consoles are for lounge sitting with game pads, arcades are for a quick shoot em up or fighting a mate. so thats what it will do. one simple list of games, easy to use so any random idiot can walk up and start playing without instructions. The only emulators i might bother with is stuff like dreamcast for soul caliber. even then keeping it within the same game list.

I've been hard at it most days just haven't been taking pics till some more substantial work is done.

I scrapped the speaker shelf and started a new one.. it seems i forgot to take into account the thickness of the wood. I'm an idiot. 10 days of work on that, test fitting over and over, and it wasn't until i actually screwed it in that i noticed.

Also had a major disaster with my monitor, i scratched the screen while investigating if i could decase it. It turned into a bonus though, i ended up scoring a 22 inch CRT!. It only has 2.5cm clearance to the sides.. wikked. Those extra couple of inches make all the difference.
thats what she said.

I spent the last few days building a home for a newer pc and sorting that out. ill try and get some pics when its actually mounted in.

Finally some real progress. spent all day in the shed.

new speaker covers arent fnished but thier magneticly held on. i liked that.
Saw somewhere on the byoac forums someone made thier pc slide out the front, i thought it was a great idea. havent fully mounted that yet till i snazz it up a bit.

the new monitors not in there yet either. still need to put hinges on the doors need to get started on the sound, tidy up the pc, monitor front, marquee, start the CP.. soo much left to do.

Well thanks for looking. im off to the shed again.

Nice one!
Love how the pc slides out. Was it hard to do? might do something similar when I get around to doing mine

I'm keeping an eye on it.
