Question Duelie or single

I have the opportunity to buy a new system its purpose in life will be to encode mpegs from DVD rips would I be better off with a p4 2 gig or a duelie with 2 X 1.13 celerons on it which is about the same price I am trying to avoid having to change PSU and RAM to save costs

If this question has been asked my apologies

Regards Hullsy

you cant use celerons over 533mhz in dual config anyways, so it looks like the p4

You can however use durons at 1.3 ghz.
Duals are a better choice overall.
My P4 2.4 running at 2.8 can't hold up to my duron dual machines.
Power is king not Ghz.

Go dual athlon XP with a Tyan board, it'll run only a little more expensive than the intel rig anyway.

Dual Durons are nice and will cost approx the same.

Is Tyan the m/b of choice if i want say 900mhz-1.1ghz durons?
If i dont want to spend ~$500 on a new dual AMD board, what cheaper alternatives are there?

again my apologies for stealing the thread
Tyan Tiger 2460s are the least expensive and run well but are bare bones. No sound or anything. Use Durons 1ghz or higher to get the mogan core.

Not required on the Tigers.

They also take standard old Athlons in Dual config. Though the Morgan cores will 'share' thier caches, I am not sure if the older ones will allow the 'snoop bus' though I am pretty sure they don't.

Yes, I have run older durons on the MP boards but the 1g and up don't generally cost any more and do perform better in SMP and have the SSE instruction set.

Very true, I actually think the Morgan durons@1ghz are faster than the 100FSB Athlons@1Ghz - noticably.
