Im sure Samsung sells more washine machines that Apple but in the world tech (where they compete head to head) Apple is ahead. Given that Apple products are basically a closed shop, where the hardware is closed and the media/tools you use are all funnelled through Apples percentage-sucking itunes/apps stores then its in our interests as consumers to ensure that they never achieve an monopoly. Thus attempts to quash competition should be rigourosly resisted, by the corporate world and the consumer. In this particular fight Samsung is the underdog.

I'm not even a supporter of the 'looks like' patent idea, its a new one brought in by the tech industry and isnt used to defend any particular invention just a vague concept of an interface. Apple aren't doing it because they're righteously indignant of Intellectual Theft, they doing it to cripple competion that can provide a similar product to theirs for the same money or less. We all know that.

I work for one of the Big 3 telcos as a sales guy. I don't sell someone an Apple product unless required. I'd recommend everything else in the store beforehand, and news stories like this are why.

yeah because its not like they dont have there own 32nm fabs, or one of only two companies to manufacture plasma screens, or have there own in house developed ARM soc or are one of the biggest ship builders in the world, etc ,etc ,etc.


no, no, all Samsung does is build VCR's

here's a hint for ya, until the Iphone 4S all of the iphones used Samsung SOC fabed in Samsung FAB's, with the Iphone 4S its a Apple SOC still fabed at Samsung.

edit: i love the way some one has edited wiki to make it look like apple developed A4...... hummingbird was made by samsung + Intrinsity in 09, apple bought Intrinsity in 10.......

I think it shows how petty Apple are being with their patent wars, Samsung are only now firing back, obviously they could have NOT done this, but Apple have forced their hand.

But don't take my word for it:

imagine the effects of google blocking every search term including iphone, ipad, ipod... would be huge.

Dutch court rejects Samsung patent claims against Apple
Samsung suffers a second loss this week as judge won't stop the sales of Apple's products


A judge at the district court in the Hague on Friday rejected claims that Samsung had made against Apple regarding four patents.

Samsung wanted Apple to pay for licensing the patents in question, and the court to issue an injunction banning the import and sale of Apple's iPhone 3GS, iPhone 4, iPad, iPad 2, as well as upcoming products, until licensing terms are in place. But the latter won't happen at this point.

The patents are standards-essential, which means they are incorporated in internationally accepted technology standards -- in this case 3G. Standards-essential patents are licensed under so-called Fair, Reasonable, and Non-discriminatory (FRAND) terms, which is what Samsung has to offer Apple.

But the judge felt that the companies didn't go through the FRAND licensing process properly, and now have to go back to the negotiating table.

Speaking of Samsung vs. Apple, the Galaxy Nexus will be announced in Hong Kong tomorrow, out of all places. I think Samsung knows it's the only place in the world with decent international exposure that won't attract attention from Apple. Last thing they want is Apple gatecrashing both Google and Samsung's party.
