Do any of the external 3TB Hitachi units have the 5K3000/5400rpm drive inside them?

Holy crap. I knew it was a jump, but that is at least a 2.5 year windback on prices.

Needed a 3TB at short notice, best I could do locally was $179 for the Seagate Expansion USB 3, I missed the boat with so many DSE stores closing, a little peeved about paying that but what can you do. Warranty is gone, gutted the enclosure for the internal SATA drive.

Should be 3 years.

Punch the details into Seagate's site here:
http://support.seagate.com/customer/...ion.jsp?form=0
It recognises my Samsung F4 drives, all 16-20 months old with 3 year warranties. Actually gives me an additional 6 weeks under Seagate's checker.

I won't touch the cheap seagate greens any more, I bought a hitachi 2tb 7200 from msy for $129.

I was hoping for some decent discounts on large drives in stocktake sales this year, not anything extreme like 3 or 4tb, just run of the mill 2tb, but we got nuthin this year.

Not that I really need it but alwys better to be ahead of the curve.

I thought Seagate stopped supplying greens, yet I think the 5*00rpm drives I think are 50/50 in their USB 3 expansions.

Seagate still have the Pipeline series which are designed for DVR applications (CCTV video recording etc). They spin at 5900RPM.

http://www.seagate.com/internal-hard...s/pipeline-hd/

But yes they dropped the Barracuda Green series at the end of last year so they no longer market a Green series drive. Essentially the reason they gave for it was because the power consumption of the newer Barracuda drives was getting close to the level of the Green drives, so it didn't make much sense to sell a drive with slightly less power consumption and less performance.
