Question Any ideas why?

Ok have GeIl Ultra DDR2 512mb chips pc-6400 in the system in my sig been running very smooth since the cpu's came out and in a system before this one
until about 2 months ago it started to give me the BSOD. Could not run Prime95 or Memtest they failed.

Now the memory timings are meant to be set on 4-4-4-12 this is what they said on the chips.
So I ran Memtest and only 4% ran before I got errors so I went in to bios and set all memory on auto it came up with timings 5-5-5-18 but increased the clock to 804.

Now in Memtest and prime95 there are no problems and they just keep testing smoothly.

My question is why would it increase the clock to 804 to run smoothly after all these years? Oh the cpu has been at 3.4 since I bought it with the memory at 4-4-4-12

What was the clock before?

I would imagine that the "Auto" function just sets the RAM to the highest clock speed that it can get (based on available memory speed ratios) that's within the rated specifications (804MHz probably counts as 800MHz/PC6400 for these purposes) and then picks relatively loose timings (ie 5-5-5-18).

It had been 800mhz

4-4-4-12 timings for a long time ever since I was going to the GeIl forums

Been on those settings for ages

Only now it has decided that the timings have to be 5-5-5-18 and 804mhz

At least it does Memtest and Prime95 has no errors it's just strange after all this time.

Did put a 750 psu and SSD in the computer but that shouldn't effect it.
