Pathetic...
Pathetic that Fermi's lasted three generations and still remains competitive with AMD's offerings?!

I actually think it's quite impressive.

People bash Fermi but fail to realise that until the 7970's came out, my quad 480s were still much faster than anything AMD had available and the 480 is now around what... almost 2 years old?

And an X79 mobo will only make them faster too...

I am very curious though as to how they expect to make up the 30% performance difference between the 580 and a 7970... it can't be just a simple clock speed boost on a 580 core surely.

People bashed First Iteration of Fermi, because it was late, crippled, and had ppor performane / Watt GF110 was fine.

It is unlikely, but remains to be seen how much Frequeny headroom 28nm brings without architectural changes (Free lunch), and if it's enough to allow a simple Fermi shrink to compete not just with Reference vs Reference, but Partners OC models too

You seem to be overly optimistic on the performance of the HD7970. Couple of fps over a GTX580 in BF3 is hardly groundbreaking.

Picking out one benchmark is hardly appropriate...

One game, and using a few FPS as a metric?

The Data is that on average, HD7970 is ~20 faster at 1080p, and ~30% faster at 1600p.

Nothing groundbreaking still, but how you can suggest Nvidia are slacking off because of a lack of competion, when their current flagship products arebehind AMD is beyond me.

I think its the worst time to buy a card at the moment... we are at a time where its so close to next gen release but not close enough for price drops

This! Worst time ever to buy a card.

Everything is to expensive considering how close "next gen" is. i.e. Second hand and new 580's are way to high $$$...and 7970's are going for at least $150 more than they will be worth new in a few months.

This is why retailers still have stocks on the 7970.... $750 is just to damn exp. people will now be like..."and nv 580 is howmuch? $550?" ill have that thanks.

As for the bf3 bench, come on guys we all play it. and if all you play a 580 is the better bargaon right now and quieter.

Mid-range card?

GeForce Kepler 104 (GK104) Packs 256-bit GDDR5 Memory Bus, 225W TDP
Quote:
NVIDIA GeForce Kepler (GK104) will be NVIDIA's first high-performance GPU launched, based on its Kepler architecture. New reports suggest that this GPU, which will succeed GF114 (on which the likes of GeForce GTX 560 Ti are based), will continue to have a 256-bit wide GDDR5 memory interface. An equally recent report suggests that NVIDIA could give the front-line product based on GK104 as much as 2 GB of memory. We are also getting to hear from the INPAI report that on this product based on the GK104, the GPU will have a TDP of 225W. What's more, NVIDIA is gunning for the performance crown from AMD Radeon HD 7900 series with this chip, so it suggests that NVIDIA is designing the GK104 to have a massive performance improvement over the GF114 that it's succeeding.
