    DISCO SCORPION

It's been quiet some time since i contributed the modding forums and after being inspired by the recent RGB craze i decided to dust off the old modding gear and have a go!

This old Junker will be transformed into the ultimate RGB SFF PC.

It's got the main things i wanted in a chassis. Small solid and "flippable" ;) With a window that presents on the opposite side.

This is an OLD SKOOL case mod and will follow the formula i used on most of my previous mods.

*Lots of plex ( Seriously lots!)
*Lots of RGB lighting (in bucket loads)
*Custom Defyant signature water loop (it's back)
*Side mounted custom hand made Res (Defyant Style)
*Every part will be fabricated by my own hands
*Hardware is still not set in stone
    *And have some fun :D

The Case to be transformed is an OLD SKOOL Ocktec P3 case mad by Compaq (hence the orig worklog title) And a OLD SKOOL case Deserves OLD SKOOL Modding.

The first thing to do is strip the case down the chassis and cut away a large section at the front top and rear to accommodate the new cooling and windows.

Next is to give the chassis a rub down and a few base coats of white. This is only a pre coat to build with. A final respray will be done near completion.

With that out of the way it's time to start some good old plex modding.

The first Panels to be installed will be 3mm gloss white plex.

    * PSU shroud/cover Full length.
    * MB back panel Cover.

The PSU shroud is cut to size and bent using a DIY line bender.

The line bender give a clean tight bend

The mother back panel cover is a measured drilled and cut to size.

The panels are sat into the chassis for a test fit.

The First RGB mod will be installed to the PSU Cover.

    * PSU Accent RGB Lighting

This will be a simple Accent light to run along the side as a light feature for the PSU cover.

A section of 3mm white plex is cut to size and a matching piece of clear is cut to the same shape.

The clear will catch the LED RGB strip and carry light.

To stop the light bleeding thru the face side the White panel is painted with white to the back.

This dos not stop the light bleed but it does hide the black out vinyl that is applied next.

The clear panel can also be painted white and the 2 sections can be glued.

A strip of RGB led's can be laid into the pre cut out section and the panel installed using double side tape.

    And Disco time begins!

The next Mod for the internal Panels will be to add a front and rear fan mount system.

Disco Scorpion Wont use traditional fans. The fans will be incorporated into the chassis and panels of the case.

    *2 x 120mm Modified fans front
    *1 x 120mm Modified fan Rear

    First the front internal panel.

A fair bit of measure twice cut once went into this panel some careful dremel and deft router work to make these possible.

With the panel in the case it starts to make sense.

Some Spare fans are stripped and gutted for a test run.

The final fans will be EPOXIED into place.

Air flow is surprisingly good and will get alot better once the front is added. This will be a positive pressure system.

The exact same mod is done for the exhaust panel @ the rear of the case.

The next RGB Feature lighting will also be to the back of the case.

This mod will be done much the same way as the side feature was done. Again using a clear panel RGB strip blockout tape
    and a feature ring.

    * The feature ring also acts are a cowl surround to help the fan draw air out.

These type of mods are like a full mod within a mod...

The ring is routed to a 45 degree angle

As part of the whole assembly

    and installed as shown

The end result is a Second internal RGB Feature

    Front Panel Fascia

I again i'm going back to my old mods for inspiration on this.

The main features for this panel will be.

    *5 layered plex 2 clear 3 white 8-10mm each
*Defyant style Dual 120mm blow holes
    *Full RGB lighting
    *Replaceable RGB RGB Lighting
    *Power/Reset Buttons (hidden)
    *Magnet hold

I had to make this whole panel twice... and depleted alot of my PLEX stockpile. But the end result was more then worth the cost.

It's starts by Routing circles to house the 120mm fans. This is done to 5 panels 10 holes.

When all 5 panels are done they create the sandwich effect. It's ALOT of plex. close to 2KG.

Next is to create the channels that the RGB LED strips will sit in.

    *Power/Reset Buttons (hidden)

The unit was salvaged from an old epc. and with a little modding perfect for the concealed buttons.

The middle 3 layers are routed

Next is to add the magnet hold mod. (this is more to help with modding)

Cover the back and front layers with block out vinyl.

    Add all the layers together

    Slide in the RGB strips

    Router the edges

Add the power wires 4 into 1

    A qik test

Testing front side and rear RGB mods

As you can now see Disco Scorp is it's own RGB light feature.

No need for RGB Fans or RGB addons.
