One day I'll have enough play money to commission a custom case from you Defyant. One day!

Yeah that'd be hard to find these days

Back in the single core / PCI (pre AGP / PCIe but post ISA for all you youngsters haha) days I used to get low end to mid-range boards, rip any cooling off (if they had any other than maybe a tiny heatsink on the chipset) and Frankenstein it up with old server heat sinks and fans ghetto modded on, then go for big overclocks

The number of dead cap's I had to replace

I'd love to do a modern, beaut' looking take on that... I'll put that on the project list

    Don't see many like this.
I'm just a "buy bits and assemble" type of guy, but I do enjoy seeing worklogs from true artisans like yourself.

I'D love to see that project mate  old skool p3/retro projects are really making a comback in the modding scene!

A GREAT way to mod @ a reasonable cost

Cheers Spork tyvm mate ... this is going to be a long worklog and it's the support that usually get me thru them :)

I'd better give yas an update!

Like the MB Armour this is just Concept atm

I want the DS to have a Signature Side res but after looking back all my old diy res's just look dated.

After a good amount of thinking i knocked up this. In honesty i'm pretty happy with the result and prolly stick with it.... Altho i may try one of 2 more designs this weekend

Like everything on this mod is starts out with ahuge chunk of plex

    2 x white 1x clear 30mm+

All 3 are router cut to the same exact size.
one is gutted to make the outer housing and the clear is edge routed.

It's still not quiet deep enuf need to buy a reverse router bit then i can cut down into the bottom layer to add more CC's.

And of course is has to be able to Go Disco!

A quick mock up to show how it will be mounted to the case.

I think it's a new spin on an old idea :)

Cheers mate ty , i gotta agree  in the end i was pretty impressed too! :D

Had a pretty productive day today.

    Side Panel.

    * Must look sexy!
    * Must be RGB
    * Cut out for recessed RES and SSD

The Side panel will be done fab'd from 3 layers of plex.

The first layer is actually the support plate for the Side Res.
This means that the Side Res will be "hard mounted" to that panel.
That panel will then be corner mounted to the chassis.

Effectively make the res and panel one joined piece.

The second layer is clear and is the RGB light diffuser for the Side Res and a Window for the SSD.

The third layer is white and the side panel of the case. This and second layer will be hard glued also effectively becoming one piece.

The case on it's side. The right is front.

The first layer is just a ruff cut white panel. The RES will eventually be HARD GLUED to this panel.

Second layer (middle) is 6mm Clear this layer is the LIGHT layer and window layer to the SSD.

This layer is OVERSIZE marked with a trace of the side RES which is then
Router cut and then Scroll sawed.

The next mod to the light panel is to add the channels for the RGB Strips

The panel can now be temp taped to the 3rd panel and taken to the router to copy the hole.

The clear middle panel can now removed, flipped and covered with block out.

The block out can be trimmed a few mm from the edges this will all the light to flow and bleed through the top layer (case side wall) and give a very soft but classy hue around the Side RES.

Also a cut out for the SSD window is made.

The trimming is made in opposite on the sidewall top (3rd panel)

Once the bulk of protective paper is peeled away a slim edge is left on the inside of this panel.

This panel is then given a coat of white paint on it's inside.

( the white paint is to stop the black blockout film from darkening the plex)

Once dry the thin strip of paper left around the res and ssd can be removed

This layer can be flipped and the 2nd layer and this can be hard glued together.

With that done i can temp attach the res and site the new panel onto the side of the case for some........

    Disco time!!

I didint want to remove any of the outer protective paper just yet...
But i couldnt resist a sneek peek at how the edge hue came out.

    I'm happy

There is a "dark spot" @ the top... i'll fix this by adding small strip to that area.

A few small up dates this time :)

    *RGB HDD cover
    *1<5 RGB power strip bus

Ive always wanted to make a RGB HDD cover and TBH i'm not sure i'll use it for this mod....

Using the same style as all the other RGB modding.
