So I bought a 980 ti off the for sale, and installed it in my 980X/X58 pc and the computer runs through startup as normal then BSOD's as soon as the windows screen drops to start up desktop.

I've got the 980 ti working beautifully in my 4770K machine, so it seems to be fine.

The BSOD code is 050, which is apparently ram / uncore related, but no matter what I changed uncore ratios to, or ram voltage, or qpi/qtt, it wouldn't boot.

Is that a known issue, or is my x58 just too old to run it? It's working fine again with the gtx 780.

PSU seems fine, was a rock solid 12.06V at the pcie leads, and it runs sli 780's with no problem. I'm not going to do a new Windows install, though now you mention it that could well be the problem. I haven't installed updates for a few years now. Can never tell which updates are the data-mining ones.

I'm going to be installing it in my new rig as soon as my ram comes in, and that will be a fresh win 7 install so I won't bother doing too much in the way of windows work on it.

Yeah, I'm betting old windows is the issue here. Cheers for that mate.

Have a 1080 here on an X58 i7-930 no problems. Had a mate who had his 980Ti in his i5-760 for a while before he upgraded to a 4790k and also didn't have issues.

Managed to swap out other graphics cards to troubleshoot the issue?
