Am roasting a leg of lamb tonight.

What temperature and time per kg do people recommend?

I googled for an online calculator but couldnt find one.

Oh, its an electric oven. :)

    Quick Roasting - 200C - 20-30 minutes per 450g

    Slow Roasting - 180C - 35 minutes per 450g

I usually slow roast mine as im not in a hurry. I like to prepare other stuff in the meantime as well

edit/ also depends wether u like it pink or well done...

    (get it...wether :p)

I just whack it in the oven ona moderate temp for about an hour then pump the temp up to brown the outside once I think it's cooked enough.

If your oven is fan forced or not and the actual size of the oven will effect cooking times. Just play it by ear and baste heaps :D

perhaps you could use one of those meat thermometers? you can get ones that go in the oven and you just look at it through the glass. some ovens even have a thermal probe built in and it does the same job.

What recipe are you using for the lamb? I LOVE the Greek style roast lamb with potatoes.. so easy and cheap to make too.

I'll use a moroccan recipe... it's really healthy:

    One stick of butter.
    Cinammon Quill
    Coriander Seeds
    Cumin Seeds
    Paprika
    Black Pepper
    Salt
    Tumeric
    Lots and lots of garlic

    Lemon

Pound all the spices with a mortar and pestle till roughly munched, then add garlic and pound till you have a paste, add butter and mix thru with a fork then add lemon. That's the healthy coating.

Then get the leg and cut deep stabs all around it, and then rub with the paste pushing ground up spice and garlic into the cavities you just created.

Cook in a slow (160C) oven basting every 20 minutes till the inside is about 60C.

Serve with some kind've dry salty dipping spice mixture of your own concoction using any or all of the previously mentioned spices.

    Yum.
