As I am in the middle of upgrading my Amiga 2000 (basically an A500 with card slots) I thought It would be good to have a thread dedicated to these classic machines. The Amiga has always been one of the best bang-for-buck gaming computers, and is certainly not dead. With recent community based mods and board designs any plain old A500 could be upgraded into a decent retrogaming machine.

    Some common mods:
HxC Floppy Emulator hardware-replacement floppy emulator that loads game images on SD cards
Indivision video PCBs that output VGA (mounted in chip sockets) ECS AGA
Animaniac's RGB-Svideo from the external video port (Aussie design/build)
Mini Megi Chip 2mb ram upgrade (with PAL/STSC Super Agnus)
WHDload - Disk based games can be 'simulated' on harddisk
Animaniac's PC Power supply converter cables
SCSI to IDE then add on on harddisks, CF or SDHC flash cards
A500 side expansions that can use harddisks/ram/amiga 2000 cards
IDE68k A500 on-chip IDE / CF board (purchase through mkl on Amibay when available)
Other IDE boards, which can be used with harddisks, CF or SDHC flash cards etc
    CPU upgrades
    PS/2 Keyboards
A600/1200 Internal CF-card adapters to IDE connector (purchase through mkl on Amibay when available)
PS2M PS/2 mouse converters (purchase through mkl on Amibay when available)
Customized machine roms (bios) that can switch between up to 4 versions
    Tower cased Amigas.

    Amiga sites:
    Aminet - Amiga file dump
AmiBay - Trading and tech forum
AmigaManiac - Aussie mod designer/cheap trader
Abime - not to be missed, portal for many top notch Ami sites, including Abime forums
    Amiga.org - forums
LemonAmiga - Great game info site + forum
FlashTro - Demo scene intros - in flash :D

Definitely keen to see this in action.

Media is always a big question mark for old systems. Being able to use disk images and modern hardware is a great way to keep old systems alive.

The only mods I ever did to my Amiga were a PAL/NTSC switch and also a chip/fast RAM switch - both done on an A500, oh I still own this machine :) And tons of original s/w

I'm a big Amiga fan too, I've got a CD32 with the paravision SX-1 addon, and I've also got an A1200HD

One purchase I'd recommend is a floppy emulator

    http://atari.plof.pl/

I've got 2 - one of my A1200 and one on my Atari ST

I just finished the 1mb switch on the a2000 and I found a new solution to getting it wired up: I cut the jumper track, soldered in an LED then cut the top off so the legs act as jumpers. I used an old PC-AT turbo switch which has 2 cables of 3 pins, used 1 end on the normal jumpers, the other end on my new jumpers.

    Edit: happy birthday Amiga

As an owner of both machines I can confidently say the Amiga had the edge on everything except power supply and internal MIDI port.

    Ahhh the Amiga. I had a 500, a 600 and a 1200. They brought so much joy!

Curse the original RROD though.. flashing power light of misery will not be missed ;)

I was tempted to get one of these GP2X Wiz MAME/Amiga/Console Emulator

I will give them a good home :D

As for the work log I need to order a pile of stuff and get a decent digital camera, but I intend on making one.

Good to see my old workhorse still being used today! Much better than sitting in the garage waiting for rats to find it... Even better when someone has the know-how to fix/mod it. Too bad it was being a stubborn bitch when I was at your place.

    Next time...

It started it. The third and last screen I had decided to blow up when I was finally giving Super Nashwan a pounding in Speedball 2. :upset:

I will let you know when get my hands on the joysticks and boxes of disks...
