Hey guys, It's been a while since I've done one of these but this CPU is just a beast and I had to knock up something simple in case you had some 5GHz ambitions and weren't sure how these new 6 cores are going to fare.

    Dang that's cool!

Did you take note of what the temps were before and after delidding?

There was about 15C difference if I remember right. Definitely a couple of hundred MHz on this particular chip though. It's not the best chip. I have some others which can take less volts and do 5GHz without delid but I wanted to show a chip that wasn't all that great.

Would like to see a video of the boot time. What SSD are you using in that system?

Wow that's a huge difference. I'd love to delid but too afraid to mess it up.

after delid, before delid I could not control temps at that voltage and speed

    I'm using a Crucial SSD 525GB

boot times are stupid fast. Honestly it's not even worth doing a video it's become insanely good.

yeah I do know what you mean. It's unnerving but with a delid tool, there is virutal nothing that can go wrong.

You will void your Intel warranty but yeah how often does an Intel chip die anyway

yeah I didn't really configure for max fps in GPU settings but yeah it fluctuated from 400-700. Goal is not to go below 240 for the 240Hz screens I guess yeah :leet:

    Cool!

You reckon these clocks would be achievable on the Aorus Ultra Gaming level mobos?

I'm due for a refresh and still coming to terms with the price increase everything seems to have had - would prefer to spend ~250 on a mobo than $400+..!

Yes mate, same sort of power design with slight variation.

When you do your testing, keep an eye on temps and if need be introduce some cooling over VRM area and see if it makes a difference. I don't have a lot of experience yet with high voltage and AIO or WC to see if there is any need for active cooling but Gaming 7 does has a little active cooling fan for VRM so there may be a need for it for high voltage/high clock stuff.

    Starting a new build

Sooooooooooooo, I'm starting a new build as I caught the upgrade bug with the new Intel 8700K being out and overclocking like a beast.

My plan is to have a showy system that is wall mountable and has some high end custom Bitspower cooling, play everything at Ultra and just beast it to the max. I also do a lot of content creation (video & photo editing for YouTube and social media) so I want a workhorse machine.

    Hardware:

    • *GIGABYTE Z370 AORUS Gaming 7
      *Intel Core i7 8700K (delidded 5GHz+)
*GIGABYTE AORUS GeForce GTX 1080 Ti
      *Thermaltake Core P5 case
      *Corsair AX1200i 1200W PSU
*Corsair 64GB Vengeance LPX DDR4 RAM
      *Crucial 525GB SSD (Main OS)
*Crucial 2TB SSD (Storage, scratch disk etc)
      *Corsair 256GB SSD (Gaming OS)
*CableMod C-Series AXi, HXi & RM ModFlexâ„¢ Cable Kit WHITE
      *Corsair RGB Fans
      *Bitspower Leviathan Xtreme 360 radiator
      *Bitspower PETG 16mm OD Tubing
*Bitspower CPU Block Summit EF-X Silver
*Bitspower D5 pump with Premium D5 MOD Top and Upgrade Kit 150
*Bitspower G1/4" Carbon Black Enhance Multi-Link For OD 16MM
*Bitspower G1/4" Matt Black Rotary 90-Degree IG1/4" Extender
*Bitspower G1/4" Matt Black Low-Profile Stop Fitting V2
*Bitspower Carbon Black Mini Valve With Black Handle
      *Bitspower Bitspower Flow Sensor White
*Bitspower Heatshrink in 4mm and 7mm

Thermaltake Core P5 case geting pulled apart

I didn't like the connectivity plate position on the case so ripped out a piece of timber and knocked up a template I will put vinyl on and mount it on the other side of the case facing me for easier access.

I used Cablemod sleeved cables. They look mint
